It would be awesome if they turned it into low income condos for people who have lost homes in the past decade. Or an abortion-plex.

I'll start the bidding at $30k.

The best thing about BoA right now is that you can pretty much bend them over and make them your biatch if they think it will keep your business or keep them out of bad publicity.

Last fall when they announced their $5 debit card fees I pulled out the last of the money I had in my savings account and left it to auto-close with a $0 balance, or so I thought. Turns out the day after I made the withdrawal a $.01 interest deposit was made that kept the account open. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and I get a letter in the mail from BoA stating that my account had a -$14.99 balance and threatening me with all sorts of credit harm if the account was closed. I called them up and found that since the $.01 deposit was made they had happily been charging me $5 monthly maintenance fees for having a balance of less than $300. I flat out told them there was no way in hell I was going to pay the balance, and if they really wanted to make a big deal about it I was sure some local media outlets might want to know about their latest little scheme. The guy got his manager on the phone who promptly told me the charges would be cleared and they would be sending me a check in the mail for the $.01. I got the check the other day; I'm thinking of having it framed or something.

You might be careful framing that. You might get a $30 fee for not cashing it.

BoA is selling their big building up here in Providence too... Its the tallest building in Providence, and one of the oldest. It will be interesting to see how long it sits empty. Looks like they are hurting, break my heart.

For the longest time I thought the proper abbeviation for Bank of America was BoA, so whenever I saw it written as BofA, I thought that the writer was saying Band of farking America.

Yeah, so, you're actually supposed to close accounts and stuff. How is the bank supposed to know you just didn't withdraw the money in your savings account to pay for something you were, you know, saving for.

But good on you for taking out your own idiocy on some phone jockey and his, i'm sure, highly connected supervisor. I'm sure they told the CEO of BoA all about it when they met him for lunch the next day.

Actually, it looks like BoA does not own the building, BentleyForbes does. They bought in it at the top of the boom and their main tenant was BoA. BoA, and others I would assume, have dropped much of their office space in the past few years. So now the building is worth about half of what it was purchased for in 2006. I just wonder who holds the mortgage...

Or perhaps to BentleyForbes, which bought the property for $436 million from Bank of America in 2006. The tower was appraised at $202 million in March (new window)

No, not WN for BoA. Just pointing out that one should take care of their own business. With a business know for farking over its customer like BoA does, it is good to get things in writing. Accorded to BoA's Deposit Agreement, you need to submitt any account closures in writing and tell the bank how to disposed of the funds. When doing such dealing, get it in writing. Don't rely on what you think should be an automatic process. I did a quick search and I don't see where in the Depositor Agreement it says that zero balance accounts will be closed. It does mention that abandoned accounts will be dealt with in accordance of State law, but that usually means there is no contact or activity for at least a year or more.

Also, feeling good because you got some phone jockey to credit you $15 to your account by threathing media attention is silly. These guys were likely in the retentions department and have the authority to write off $25 or so. I know we did nearly 20 farking years ago when I worked at a State wide bank (that was eaten by Bank One, eaten by Chase, voltroned into JPMorganChase).

One of the accounts my job has is in a 6 story building. We occupy 2 of the floors, the other 4 have been empty for over 3 years now. The floors have never been occupied, so they are just empty. I used to go up to the top floor for lunch had a nice little table and chair up there someone in the construction company left. Then they locked the elevators. After that it stunk because I didnt have my private lunchroom anymore :(

I ported my month-to-month cell phone number to a VoIP provider, but not before I cashed in my loyalty points for a cheapie phone that I immediately sold on CL. Farkers tried to stick me with a $25 "hardware administration fee" for that phone, and then tried to bill me for an extra month where I couldn't even use my old phone. I wouldn't mind a having to stick out the remainder of the billing cycle, but them wanting an extra month after that, plus that stupid fee, lead me to tell them to just fark off.

You mean, like my wife did when she moved her biz account to another bank and went into the local BoA branch and went through the paperwork to close the account? BoA doesn't believe in closing accounts... they processed an autodebiatcharge as a "courtesy" to her, which, of course, overdrafted the account.

/And yes, she'd called to have the autodebiatcharge moved to the new account
//And BoA was courteous enough to process the charge 3 times, on a CLOSED account

Happened to me too. Took 3 months to close my debit account with them because their system keep trying to bill me for maintenance and that interest thing. It looped just like that for a couple of months before the account was closed for good.

Whats funny is that this could easily fuel some BoA hate. So BoA sells their stake at the top, not long before everything crashed. So what did they know and when did they know it. Are institutions, like pensions funds and retirements systems, the main investors of BentleyForbes? If so, does that mean taxpayers are on the hook for more while BoA walks away, mustache betwixt fingers, with a pocket full of cash?

I don't have these answers, I'm just asking questions as to happened here and to that alleged girl in 1999.

Interesting. My wife went to close her BoA account last year (I was with her) and when they went to withdraw all of the money, I noticed the amount on the check was 1 penny short of the amount listed online. We called the teller out on it - and she had to call a manager over to authorize the withdrawal and ultimate closure of the account. That could possibly be what happened with you. If that's BoA's SOP, they're unmitigated assholes. It pays to pay attention when dealing with them.

Mocking the news is one thing, disinformation is something compeltely different, the place used to mock openly but over the past 3-4 years it has taken a dramatic shift to the whacky left. I dont feel Im whining as much as its pointing out the hypocrisy that is rampant here over recent history.
