So many anti-Christs running around these days. We need an election process or a reality show to weed them out.

FTA:

Gingrich has framed the election as a battle for America's soul, warning that if Obama is not defeated, the United States is in danger of becoming a "secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists."

Every time I read that sentence it trips a circuit breaker in my head.

well, then he'd have to put forth a plan for building something at Megadido that's worth fighting over.

I heart it so much. It exemplifies Leroy's huge disconnect from reality while at the same time demonstrates the "keyword" approach all of the Republican candidates have taken during this election. It's the next evolution of Giuliani's "9/11, 9/11, 9/11, 9/11" run last time.

Well, he totally stands behind his record when he was the anti-Christ when he was governor. But he's repeatedly said time and time again that being the anti-Christ is bad for the economy, it's bad for jobs, and it's bad for the country.

I think the voters will find that when it comes time to go cast they're votes, they'll find no bigger Christ than Mitt Romney running for president.

Well I'd go further, and say there is no way to be a Christian and support the Republcian party. They are diametrically opposed -- it's like being a Black Klansman or a Jewish Nazi. It makes absolutely no sense.

quoting one scribe who doesn't believe is hardly any more than pharispeak...

Orthodox rabbi who wrote the Kosher Jesus is being told to STFU in Lost Angeles by other more scholarly Jews

Jews know what judyism is and they didn't conspire with pantheistic rome to murder the heretic for practicing orthodox Judaism...

All the present can know of the past is in the writings and cultural ephemera remnant...

there is no honest question regarding historicity or textual reliability...

there are questions of meaning and consequence

None of the leading republicrats practice anything resembling an orthodox branch of Christianity as taught by Y'shua

nor should that fact interfere with their victory over hobama the great...fraud

I'm glad I'm not the only one. timujin's right - he's playing Buzzword Bingo. And there are voters who will actually take this seriously as a policy statement.

The really, truly sad part is that the most GOP voters are as contemptuous of those farking peckerwoods as the rest of us, and know their party is becoming the Batshiat Crazy Religious Nutjob Party, but they just can't bring themselves to vote Democrat.

That's the oh-so-subtle Republican technique being used to tell us that Obama is still a muslim. Sort of like Bush's speeches that don't exactly claim that Iraq was behind 9/11 but....Iraq. And 9/11.

/funny not a lot of republican apologists in this thread

2012-02-07 12:36:29 PM
I'm not saying that Jesus would have been a Democrat. Anyone who pretends to find support for specific political policies or ideologies in the Bible is delusional. Scholars cannot agree if Jesus was a social revolutionary, a tortured mystic, or something altogether different. Even what Jesus himself believed about the most essential aspects of what was to become "Christianity' - a religion founded not by him, but by his disciple Paul of Tarsus - is unclear. As leading biblical scholar Bart Ehrman noted in "Jesus, Interrupted," some of the most important Christian doctrines, including the divinity of Christ, the Trinity and the concept of heaven and hell, were not held by Jesus himself: They were added later, when the church transformed itself into a new religion rather than a Jewish sect.

I agree with pretty much everything in this paragraph. However, the fact that the author asserts that the details of Jesus life are ultimately unknown, and the fact that he cites Bart Ehrman (who grew up fundamentalist, but made the transition to liberal Christian then agnostic as a direct result of his study of the Bible) both guarantee that the main point of this article will be totally lost on those that most need to hear it. People who are already familiar enough with the history of the New Testament to agree with these statements also already know that the Republican platform is inconsistent with historical Christianity. This article thus strikes me as redundant to those who agree with it, and ineffective at communicating with those who don't.

/ Of course, if I make a habit of getting hot and bothered every time a political article is needlessly written, it's going to be a reaallllly long year

Yes, just like the devil is not this hideous hellbeast. They are extremely appealing folks who try to give you a reason to turn away from God™ willingly. Just dragging you to hell is not nearly the level of satisfaction that comes from proving to his holiness that his shiat still stinks and people would choose to spurn him.

According to Hollywood, the anti-Christ is Sam Neil, who and I speak as a confident heterosexual, is a charming and handsome man. I refuse to believe that Hell is so poorly run as to produce someone like Romney.

A friend of mine truly thought that Obama might be the Antichrist. I told him he should definitely vote for Obama then, since the Second Coming can't happen until after the Antichrist comes into power; why would you want to delay the Rapture?

Also, I remember growing up in an intensely Christian small town. I wasn't (and am not) Christian, but essentially everyone I knew was. The ones who were the most likely to crow about Jesus were also the ones who drank, smoked, had premarital sex, didn't volunteer to help the poor, and didn't respect their parents. But they loved Jesus, so they were automatically better than I was.

(The whole concepts of sola fide and sola savorum as corrupted by the modern Evangelical movement is the worst thing to happen to Christianity since Paul.)

(Note that I drank and had premarital sex, but I didn't go around telling other people not to, either.)
