Well yeah, it's not like that Gulf Stream does nothing.

I'm living in Amsterdam, and it's been a really strange winter. Two weeks ago I was photographing daffodils on the Amstel River, two days ago I was photographing this just next to my apartment-

I love this bullsh*t theory.

It's stupid headlines like this that remind me why I call it climate change. Also, climate =! weather.

2012-02-07 11:48:18 AM
If you understood how it worked, Subby, you'd realize why your headline makes you look like a gibbering, piss-soaked basket-case.

Rock on, girlfriend!

2012-02-07 11:50:30 AM
You know, even my 81 year old, non-stop Fox watching father understands the concept that global climate change can result in severe weather extremes.

Why can't you dolts?

2012-02-07 11:50:52 AM
So do we have to explain this in every climate change thread?

2012-02-07 11:56:23 AM
I feel like the entire thread is being trolled.

If subby is this stupid after all this time, there's nothing we can do to save him.

I see all the appropriate responses have been covered...

2012-02-07 12:09:13 PM
Isn't this what the, you know, "scientific experts" predicted? I've barely seen a snowflake all year, and in Ontario at that..."Cold" has been, at the most, -5 Celsius. Now I know that where I'm living right now, I'm experiencing the lake effect, and the drunk effect, but come on... It should be colder where I am right now. Global warming is not real people, it's the beer that you're drinking. Or something like that.

2012-02-07 12:12:05 PM
I love it when people who don't actually understand climate claim they know everything about climate and denounce the idea that climate change excludes all cooling.

I'm sure none of the climate change deniers are aware of the fact that the lower atmosphere is cooling by a fairly large amount due to surface warming.

It used to. And it was one of the reasons that the Dutch used to dominate speed-skating: they had a tradition of skating long distances on the canals.

Here, let Skeptical Science (new window) explain why "it's cold" is not an excuse to say that climate change isn't happening...

Holy shiat, Skeptical Science has got a lot of these explanations. Record cold spells (new window), record snowfall (new window), but here's a good one for Subby: Global Warming vs Climate Change (new window).

See, it's like this. It's getting colder because of global warming, which is melting the North Pole. Look, it's complicated. You've got to be a Scientist to understand it.

Seattle got nailed and there was record snowfall in Colorado. Your argument is invalid. I mean have you seen the temps in Alaska?!

If you want to know who your stupid friends are, start a discussion on this subject: when billions of tons of ice melt, all that frigid water has to both a) go somewhere and b) have an effect. Derrrrp.

Yeah same.

The civil engineers I know for New England are changing updating their climate statistics. 150 year old stuff is being changed.

Newfoundland is hurting because the gulf stream is pooling just south of them getting rid of their cod with the warm water.

Allen262: Subby has no idea how Global Warming works....

The name was never changed ... please do not feed into this lie.

If you look at the scientific literature going back to the 1970's you will see both terms in common use. Global warming describes the cause and Global Climate Change describes the effect.

/GCC came into common use in the public forums when the Bush Jr. administration decided to admit GW was happening but wanted to use a less-scary term.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the canals in Amsterdam are supposed to freeze over in winter.

Those who say there's no global warming lack the intellect to grasp the big picture of what's happening. Something's caused Arctic air to stop coming down through North America, and it just so happens there's a tiny trickle left to make Europe cold. This isn't normal. Nights here lately have felt like September, not February. And that's how its been ALL WINTER. It keeps this up, this winter will have been nothing but 60 degree days and 40 degree nights. No snow, and barely any reason to even wear long pants.

Normally this kind of weather pattern only occurs during mid-summer. No arctic air is coming down, at all. Doesn't that scare anyone? If the ice cap disappears, it could very well mean that the core of cold air over the north pole could disappear too. No more winter, just one endless 90-100*F summer stretching into the next. Who seriously wants that!? I'd rather move to Antarctica.
