You see, the internet is a series of tubes. And when you have a big event such as Madona's concert during that ball game this weekend, too many people put too much stuff into these tubes and they get clogged.

i am not noticing any slowdown. fark is loading fast as well as facebook. now the other day it was like facebook had vanished from the interwebs cause i kept getting either a 404 or the server is taking too long to respond. figured they were force implementing the timeline thing

The "averages" by continent might be misleading. NA has lots of ~93% routers and several 0% routers (insert "broke my wookie" here). Australia has a higher continental rating, but its non-zero% routers each rate below 85%.

Shouldn't the 0% routers be left out of the calculation, because IP finds a way around them, making them moot?

2012-02-07 09:15:33 AM
Well, guess I'll put in my weekly two hours of actual work this morning.

No, because that rerouted bandwidth consumption gets added to the remaining routers.

I don't care enough to pay attention to what that chart means, all I know is under kansas there is a big red zero.

Maybe unrelated, as I said I dunno what half that shiat means, but many people I know have been getting poor cell phone reception or they've been having text messaging get all borked and not go through this past week. Different carriers and everything too.

My service has been slow and semi-unreliable all weekend. Considering the recent attempts by some providers to cap usage, how off the wall is it to speculate that they might be deliberately choking things in order to create an illusion of necessity for their caps?

carmody: Yahoo Mail is farked at the moment, too.

Subby here. My regular Yahoo mail is fine, but my gorram AT&T (Yahoo-based WTF??) email is totally unresponsive, has been since @ 7 AM EST. Fb is slow or unresponsive, but like namegoeshere said, yeah Fark actually seems okay, although some of the links were also slow as hell for me. I have never seen the report for North America drop below 85 before...

It's only slow if you get it on a mobile device. If you access it with a regular connection it's just fine.

I suspect that the downrightnow page for Facebook would be a bit more enlightening.

CloudFlare is reporting ongoing attacks to their Los Angeles and Singapore facilities. It would not surprise me if attacks on a major service like Cloudflare might have effects on other services using shared network links/exchanges.

/CloudFlare is awesome, particularly as it's free.

Amusingly enough, the DRN link got stripped by Fark as it wasn't responding.

The non-linkied version is http://downrightnow.com/facebook

Hmm, Facebook is down.

Maybe this is a stunt. "See how much you missed us. Now, if you would only hand over $10 a month we can make sure that doesn't happen again."

Or maybe California finally broke off the continent. Anyone checked lately?

I wonder if this is some kind of bullshiat retaliation by Anon for BTjunkie being forced to go run and hide? Those turds will attack at the drop of a magnet link like a starved dog tasting blood.

Rie: Everything seems to be running about normal except Facebook has been completely boinked.

I assure you, it isn't just Fb. As much as I loathe my former Bellsouth email (now AT&T/Yahoo), it has never gone down before. I am noticing other totally random links becoming unresponsive at times, and even Fark is now staggering for me from moment to moment. Bloody hell, I needed to go outside and get some fresh air anyway.

2012-02-07 09:29:40 AM
Fark and Email are fine here (I live in St. Louis with Charter cable internet), but I'm not able to get Hulu or Netflix this morning. Netflix isn't responding and Hulu tells you their videos are unavailable.
