I'm beginning to doubt this guy's version of what happened to his wife.

2012-02-07 09:21:41 AM
He's been giving their things away for a while now. This was a plan - he did not just snap.

I read about this bastard before going to bed then couldn't sleep without having horrible nightmares. I really cannot comprehend parents who can do this to their own children.

When I started my first job after high school working at a summer daycare, I saw one of the first graders sitting alone looking sad. I went over and asked him what was wrong. He said he really missed his best friend. I asked him where his best friend was. His response? "His dad slit his throat" *insert throat slitting hand gesture* "with a knife." Turns out this kid's best friend was one of the two boys murdered earlier that year by their father - almost exactly like this situation - and this poor, sweet first grader was trying to process what happened. Broke my heart to a million pieces. I just hugged him and let him cry a bit, because what do you do?

/going to go hug my kids again

"Those boys were evidence. Those boys were going to be evidence against him," Troyer said. "You're looking at somebody who's willing to kill their own kids ... killing your wife isn't that much of a stretch from there."

I just can't wrap my head around this sick fark. He murdered his kids to (most likely) destroy evidence of his wife's murder. He then offs himself. So he dies a child murderer no matter what, and everybody is now 99.99% sure that he killed his wife too. If he had just offed himself, everyone would still think the same thing about his wife, but the kids would at least be alive.

I hope there's a hell, because he's a perfect candidate.

While I agree, someone who manages to kill his wife and avoid jail for 3 years, is a worthless sociopath. He didn't care that he was killing his kids as well.

Don't axe

Dnrtfa, but subby sounds black.

Anyone who can swing a hatchet at their own kids can kill their wife. He's guilty as fark. Bury him in a shallow grave away from everyone.

I can't understand why he didn't just off himself and spare the children. Who cares if they convict you posthumously - you're already dead. I can understand how a person could be moved to kill a wife or himself - I could never do it, but at least there could be a reason, no matter how deranged. But to kill your own children (or any child), I just can't wrap my head around that.

Pathological narcissism. Seems trite to put it like that, but that's basically it.

Kill the guy's father the same way -- axe to the neck and then a fireball. In fact, hunt down his mother, grandparents, siblings, cousins, etc., and kill them, too.

/Only partly joking

Yet another person I'm going to have to go shoot in the head if I get my hands on a time machine.

That evidence suggests that Powell planned the deaths for some time, Troyer said -- "I believe this was intentional."

Let's not jump to any conclusions yet.

It's the feel-good aspects of this story that I enjoy.

2012-02-07 11:21:06 AM
The kids were living with the wife's parents, and had started talking.

His official story was "I left to go camping with the boys at midnight. When we got back, she was gone."

But recently, the boys had told their grandparents that their mom was in the trunk of the car on the trip.

He doesn't get the "insanity" excuse - he made sure everything was taken care of - family knew how to disconnect his utilities and where he kept his money, donated the kids' stuff to Goodwill. Premeditated filicide.

And yet I've seen comments that "gov't getting involved in his life pushed him over the edge." Fark that.

not to say CNN is making it up, but is the chopping just added to make the story more sensational? I don't think news sources like CNN are above that kind of nonsense.

In recent months, the children had started opening up and talking about what happened the night their mother disappeared, members of the Cox family said.

"They basically kept saying how they went on a vacation in the desert, and camping ... they stopped at some place, and mommy and daddy left, and only daddy came back," Judy Cox, Susan Cox-Powell's mother, told NBC's "Today" on Tuesday.

Chuck Cox, Susan Cox-Powell's father, told "Today" that the younger boy, Braden, had drawn a picture of the family's minivan. Asked who was in the minivan, the child told his teachers "that was his daddy, Charlie and himself, and that Mommy was in the trunk," he said.

But, Cox told ABC's "Good Morning America," the boys' remarks were inconsistent.

"When I would say, 'Well, daddy said mommy stayed home' (from the camping trip), then they would go back to, 'I don't remember," a rehearsed, you know, a coached statement," he said.

If you can't imagine living without your kids, give the kids to your family and take yourself out.

Some folks just need killing - themselves. Really don't understand why folks' do the murder suicide, if they just did it the other way, much heartache would be spared.

/yes, suicide-first

Hmmm...wonder where they got that detail...

Autopsies showed his sons, 5-year-old Braden and 7-year-old Charlie, suffered "chop" injuries to their necks, but both boys and their father died from inhaling carbon monoxide, the county medical examiner's office said.

Autopsies after a crime are newsworthy.

It sounds callous, but in cases like these I always wonder what kind of person would have married this guy in the first place. I realize that sociopaths can fake it, but look at this guy. His face, his voice, his mannerisms, they all say "I'm a weak, pathetic, broken little man-child." Was he ever any different? I doubt it.

According to investigators, Powell had said the last time he saw his wife was the night he and his sons -- then ages 2 and 4 -- left to go camping after midnight in freezing weather.

Sounds legit.

CBS's 48 hours did an episode about this guy/case several months ago his father was just as creepy & claimed some weird things about the missing mom. I'm guessing they'll rerun it this Saturday with the updated information.

I'm curious whether any of the people he e-mailed had time to contact the police. I'm also not clear on whether the maternal grandparents told the police about the boys' recent statements about the night their mother disappeared.

Doubt it. There is no upside. The wife was murdered. The kids were murdered. The guy offed himself without being brought to justice.

Lifetime has some depressing farking movies, but the vast majority of the time there is SOME upside or moral win.

Everyone lost in this story.

/also can't understand how one can do that to your kids
