Of all the things to be upset about, this is not one of them.

Its strategy, really. You can be all moralistic that you want, but what good does it do when you aint in a position to change it?

McCain-Feingold?

So, this campaign is going to be... Koch vs Buffett?

I am for one SHOCKED! SHOCKED! I tell you! To discover that the guy who destroyed public financing of Presidential campaigns is now embracing Super PACs!

/SHOCKED!

Already seen this one and their talking points... What did everyone expect him to do in the end after the citizens united ruling, to tie his hands behind his back and let the republicans control the narrative?

Yes!

It's not fair that he would use the law of the land just like the GOP.

2012-02-07 08:52:31 AM
My name is Obama and while I talk a lot about the big bad banks and the evil rich people, I hypocritically do the opposite in real life.

Broke and Chains

2012-02-07 08:52:53 AM
Oh, come on. Do you really want to trot out 'flip-flopper' when Mittens is about to be your nominee?

And do you really expect Obama to take on a barrage of super PAC ads without being able to respond in kind? Then you'd call him weak on defense.

Super PACs suck and you can thank the Roberts court for them. Don't expect Obama to stand defenseless when the GOP will be pouring a shiat-ton of money into super PACs themselves.

Yeah that's what happened.

I can't be happier with this decision. Now it's time to watch the GOP gnash and wail about it.

Cat Food Sandwiches: Somebody owes the Supreme Court an apology.

You might have trouble with this concept but you could be against the idea of Super PACs while also acknowledging their effectiveness and utilizing them as the candidates you are competing against are.

2012-02-07 08:55:02 AM
It's the system that exists. The only way he can counter the big money from the right is to get big money from the left. This doesn't mean that he thinks it's the right way to do things.

It's all well and good to take a stand, but in this instance it would be sacrificing too much. It's more important that to en sure Romney is not president than to eliminate super-PACs.

Everyone knew it was going to happen. SuperPACs are a given now. I don't think it is so much gnashing and wailing as going for the easy cheap shot when they saw the chance.

So, the argument is "Obama should take a principled stand against the morally questionable money that the GOP is using to sway the election"? Is that right?

KellyX: Already seen this one and their talking points... What did everyone expect him to do in the end after the citizens united ruling, to tie his hands behind his back and let the republicans control the narrative?

Well DUH!

That way they could let the rich people (but, you know, the RIGHT rich people) buy the POTUS for the next couple of election cycles.

It's only right after all... the rich know what is best for you, why can't you just agree to let them rule you and stop making a fuss about it?

What was the excuse when he was running against McCain and violated what he'd said about financing?

He is simply another scumbag politicians who knows he can say anything, do the opposite, and still have the idiots who care more about the (D) {or in other cases (R)} behind his name defend his actions.

He didn't in the last election, where the GOP candidate ran on public funds. I certainly wouldn't expect him not to follow his own example. Has he gotten that Billion yet?

Last time I asked, I was told that he was such a lock that big money was going to bet on him.

Republican Super Pac = ZOMG buying government!
Democratic Super Pac = Corporations betting on a sure thing!

2012-02-07 09:00:17 AM
I don't recall Obama ever saying he wouldn't take money from Super PACs. He only said it was a bad decision and would damage democracy. And he was right.

uh, for instance mitt romney's tax plan is to the right of george W's where obama's is kinda not. Reasons like that are why I as a middle class person would rather see a democrat in office. But I know boaf sides r bad.

He's whining that McCain couldn't raise money because George W poisoned the well so bad for possible victory. Where Obama could because it was pretty much his race to lose.... i think anyways

Not whining. I like Obama. I am not crazy about people making excuses that require a double standard.
Get your Billion, Obama, just don't pretend money in politics is a GOP thing.

bulldg4life: So, the argument is "Obama should take a principled stand against the morally questionable money that the GOP is using to sway the election"? Is that right?

I would phrase it: "We, the GOP, think Obama should take a principled stand against the morally questionable hundreds of millions of dollars we are raising that will be used exclusively for negative attack ads and borderline slander. And we'll act shocked that he decides to defend himself against our fully developed, finely honed hate machine."

Let me get this straight, Fark Independents™...

Obama rakes in a shiat-ton of small donations = OMG, he's destroying democracy!

Supreme court opens the doors for unlimited big money contributions = A victory for free speech

Obama-supporting SuperPACs pull in a fraction of what GOP SuperPACs are pulling in = OMG, wake up sheeple! He's Satan!

Do I have that right? Am I missing anything?

2012-02-07 09:09:57 AM
Anyone who thought for a second that Obama wasn't going to use Super Pac money is almost too stupid to be allowed to vote.

Anyone who thinks Obama is a weak political figure who doesn't know the game should take a look at how he got started in Chicago (hint, it wasn't necessarily pretty).

/he's still a million times better than those idiots in the GOP

HotWingConspiracy: LOL, what a dumb ass. Why couldn't he raise any money?

Yes, McCain very much is a dumbass who will say anything to get something. He is a less handsome Mitt.

Bush isn't endorsing anyone, but I know he likes Obama.

Obama didn't disagree with the Citizen's United decision? So now he doesn't have to play by the rules?

I have no clue what you're trying to say here but it doesn't seem to line up with any version of reality I'm familiar with. Care to elaborate?

Obama decided to backtrack on his pledge to use public funding in the last campaign. He is on track to out raise the GOP candidate this time, as well. I'm not mad at him for it. But he has no problem with corporate money in politics, least of all HIS politics.

s2s2s2: just don't pretend money in politics is a GOP thing.

if it plays with the narrative then why not, it isn't like they don't fight for tax breaks for the super wealthy all the time and have regressive tax schemes in red states.
