editor: this story is too goddamned boring to run, can't you spice it up somehow, nerd?
science reporter: (sarcastically) well daily mail readers love nazis, i could jam in some unfounded speculation about nazis right in the middle of an otherwise coherent article.
editor: that's perfect, run with it.

It reads like two totally different stories. One paragraph for the expedition, then one on Nazis, then expedition, then Nazis.

No, Paul Dacre (the editor of the Daily Mail) would have demanded pics of hot girls in miniskirts, admittedly tricky to fit into a story about Antarctica, and then called the journalist a coont.
What we need is a picture of an Arctic based official, maybe when they are about to get into a shower...

Someday Marvel Comics will hire me to write a Captain America story about remnant Nazi's in Neuschwabenland, Antarctica trying to launch a UFO invasion.
Still waiting on that call, Marvel Comics!

How come the goauld never kidnapped any nazis? Star trek did a nazi planet episode 30 years prior, how come SG1 never wound up on a nazi planet. Or a gangster planet where everyone walks around with tommy guns all the time?
Nobody ever wants to read my fan scripts. :(

Maybe these Russians were never in Antarctica at all. Maybe they were in some Moscow suburb soundstage creating a fake Antarctica expedition but then images leaked out showing some playgrounds in the background and government officials couldn't explain them away because, well, there are no playgrounds at the south pole, right? So the entire project was shut down and the crew liquidated to cover it up.
I'm not saying it was an elaborate Russian hoax cover-up, but it was a Russian hoax cover-up

There is a Nazi planet. The one where Teal'C and O'Neil fly those fancy drones to help shoot down attacking bombers. Then they realize that the people they're helping are fascist and focused on racial purity.
