something about those i wondered. the BP employees who are from those areas, I wonder what upper management told them to get them to do those spots. "do it or your fired or never will get that promotion" etc.
another thing it says the us lifted the ban on drilling in 2011 in the gulf. How much of the gulf does the us own? I mean after a point you would go south and end up in Mexico.

Farking criminals. The oil industry has been crowing about how we are now exporting more refined petroleum products than we import for the first time in 60 years. We're glutted with gas. Yet the price of gas in my area has gone up by 22 cents/gal in two weeks. Their excuse this time is (spins wheel) that people are using less gas, so they have to increase their prices to keep revenues up so that production will remain steady.

When you make that much money you can do whatever the hell you want. We all know this, but we always act surprised.
Of course we could try to something about it. Anything really. Just start small, get the awareness out. Maybe start a protest. Oh, right, we can't do that; only lazy good-for-nothing hipsters protest. Ah well. I'm sure somebody else will do something about it.

It was Halliburton and Transocean who ran the rig, not BP. BP just bought 60% of the output. Don't hear anyone crying for their blood, but then they are American companies. Union Carbide gave $2000 each to the surviving Bhopal victims after a protracted court case. Injured an estimated 40,000. There are other companies which are more evil.

In 2000 a barrel of oil was $17.00
In 2001, gasoline was an average $1.40/gal

ha no but seriously does the whole international waters thing apply to the gulf? I know these rigs aren't right up next to the shore they are several miles out. I just thought it sounded odd that the us could say, no more drilling in the gulf when Mexico borders part of the gulf as well and i will have to check but i am pretty sure there might be one or two more smaller countries that have shoreline on the gulf as well.

Countries are entitled to claim a 200 mile Economic Exclusion Zone where they have exclusive access to the resources under the sea; they can prohibit commercial fishing, mining, drilling, etc. in that zone.
Outside of that, they would have to exercise control over vessels flying their flag or citizens of their country. In theory, there's nothing the US could do if a Mexican company decided to drill 300 miles off of our shore, the same way Mexico has no say if a US company drills 300 miles of their shore. There may be treaties about it, as well as international court cases or more treaties that govern liability for pollution or spills.

Give me a brand new, fuel efficient, car I can buy for what my A4 costs to buy an operate. I'll give you a hint: Even if I completely went bonkers and got a car that did 50mpg, I only save ~$3300/year in gas. Amortize that against the cost of buying a new car and you see why hybrids/fuel efficient cars make no sense to me. That and well, I live in the snow belt of Ohio, AWD/4WD is a must to make it to work, and I actually like having a car that doesn't feel cheap on the inside. My Audi fits me for what I use it for and honestly, I can afford the $3300/year more I pay in gas to drive the thing versus a smug-producing Prius.
vs.
I think I'll take the Audi everyday and know that my quattro AWD will get me through any weather Lake Erie decides to throw at me.

I had one of those. I loved it. Drove the shiat out of that thing in NV and CA...sweet handling on lonely desert/mountain roads.
But I have one of these now. Perfect, for me, for Colorado...AWD/4WD, low-range 4WD/lockable center diff for going off-road. Big, comfortable, and while the fuel price is a bit higher, it's way cleaner than a gas SUV, gets better mileage than a Tahoe hybrid, and does way more than a Ford Escape hybrid. HWY MPG: I get 27-28 MPG, combined around 23MPG. I don't really care about gas prices, because we still have it better than Europe. Except that our roads suck in comparison.
