It's not about "choice", it's about "we want vouchers so we can get a slice of that taxpayer pie, too"

From the comments section...

I believe our school's are more in line with the beliefs and teaching's of Communist China's Mao Tse-tung and Russia's Karl Marx.

And much, much more well informed opinions!

CNSNews. The Derpers news source.

No, it's about not having to have your kids go to school with "them."

You know what would fix our school system? Rich kids stay together in the rich schools, poor kids in the poor schools. Rich kids are just smarter, poor kids shouldn't slow them down. Each school should be mandated to teach the controversy over the theory of evolution, the very plausible arguments from intelligent design, the Bible's historical and continuing benefits to Western civilization and Jesus Christ as a perfect American role model (no direct quotes). Economics will consist of Tax Cuts and the limitless wellspring of jobs that are created from them, and the evil oppression of communist social programs that, frankly, kill jobs and make the ghost of Reagan cry. Sexual Education will be abolished in its entirety and if it comes up in class discussions for any reason, sex will be treated as being a terrible, sinful thing until marriage is established - and that this is only between man and woman (to do otherwise is to condemn our children to hell). There will be a morning prayer dedicated to the Christian (true) god, but during this time the Muslims can fit their 5 in and whoever else out there can do whatever it is they do (probably stupid).

Don't you see? Unless we do all these things, your PUBLIC (socialist) school system is nothing more than the stone on which Obamao sharpens his future Shocktrooper's skills. If we don't wake up and ignore the MSM Agit/Prop, America, I'm afraid that Obamao may win a second term and without fear of Re-Election he will finally reveal his true form, and use our brainwashed children as enforcers of his Martial Law to take away our guns and force us to eat ARUGULA!

Heh... A blast from the past there. They did catch those guys eventually, didn't they?

Maybe a few of them, but from what I can tell, most of these knuckle-draggers lack the strength of their convictions and will just sit on their fat asses and piss and moan on the internet.

"This is what Hitler and Mussolini and all them tried to establish -- a monolith; so all the children would be educated in one set of beliefs and one way of doing things."

Obviously, the Church frowns on self-awareness and irony.

Seriously. I had a highschool teacher who was back from his second tour in Iraq, and another who spent his 20s backpacking around India and biked to work everyday. I liked having teachers that were real people with disparate opinions.

It would be a real tragedy if a High School diploma meant something no matter where it was earned. Good thing no one ever leaves their home town so such standards are not necessary.

No, the Pope thinks this as well, so it must be true.

Church Schools really haven't thought this all the way through. If they start taking taxpayer money, particularly Federal taxpayer money, they will suddenly be forced to follow all sorts of government rules and regulations, and open themselves up their practices and methods to scrutiny from politicians and the general non-religious public. They will no longer be allowed to discriminate against gays, women, and coloreds. Even their Sunday Sermons would come under scrutiny if they are even remotely connected to the schoolwork. They really don't want this, but I guess the allure of a few extra "free" dollars is too much to resist for a true-blooded American

I'm not. I predict actual violence this time, as they realize that much like their Islamic doppelgangers, they can only impose their retarded version of the world via force.

Both Mussolini and Hitler were raised Catholic, by the way.

Solutions are fine, but too many are only temporary. Would either of these guys have a more permanent, say a "final" solution?

I absolutely love how democrats completely ignore the success stories of the KIPP system. Some parents want a choice in their child's education, the horror!

School choice is ultimately not about access to taxpayer dollars. There are many proposals that do not give dollars back to the parents, such as being able to choose among all local public schools.

There are proposals that do. Charter schools are sometimes run by for profit companies, sometimes not.
Vouchers and tax credits are involved as well.

But the ultimate reason behind school choice is to allow parents to leave failing schools, or schools that force things they disagree with upon the children.

We hear mostly about the uber-christians trying to get their kids out of school, but the same could be said for parents in Pennsylvania, Texas, Nebraska and many other places where forced school prayer still exists, or christian indoctrination is still the norm.

It can also be said for many inner-city schools, (Paterson, Camden) where parents want something better but are locked in.

Allowing school choice might get extremists out of the public schools, which may be sad for some of those kids, but a relief for the rest of us. It would also allow religious minorities, like atheists and others, to get their kids away from christian bullying.

This cuts many ways.

2012-02-07 09:19:04 AM
You religion bashers can slant it anyway you like, but the Bishop is right, the government is getting way too into all our lives. Once they get in, they'll never get out.

What's that you say? Parents are still free to send their kid to private school or homeschool them if they see fit? How about that.

"Today many parents in our state experience the same lack of freedom in choosing an education that bests suits their child as those parents oppressed by dictators of the past."

Care to explain how they don't have the freedom to choose an education that best suits their child Bishop? Oh, you can't because they actually have the freedom to do that? Yea, that's what I thought. I know you are all butthurt about attendance at Catholic schools dropping like a stone in a lake, but maybe you should look at the boy farkers you have had in your midst and how you covered it up. fark you asshole.

2012-02-07 09:22:04 AM
I have a home in NY and pay the ridiculous property taxes thanks in part to pathetic mismanagement of the school system, I also have property in MA and pay slightly less property taxes for one of the best school systems in the country. Like everything the GOP proposes it is just a money grab for the pieces of shiat who own them and not really a solution to the problems. But in many states there does need to be something done to fix the school system.

2012-02-07 09:24:02 AM

No that is not true at all Tom Vouchers are a direct assault on publicly available free education. The goal is to split the funding on already underfund schools with the goal of pushing children towards profit driven education where the state has little control on the amount of actual science being taught. If you think the average private school is better ran, then you live in a fantasy.
