Romney once supported abortion rights but now opposes abortion.

What was that term that I heard so much during the 2004 election?

Thong? no.

Sandal? no.

Man! It's like right on the tip of my tongue!

He proves himself out of touch with the human race almost daily.

Also, threadwinner in one.

Speaking of cash grabbing, we shouldn't be focusing on Susan Komen's administrative overhead because Planned Parenthood has overhead too (new window).

/Republicans sure love the "both sides are bad" line of "reasoning".

To be fair to Romney, I bet his business buying failing businesses and firing all the employees at least managed to run on less than 80% overhead and didn't lobby against a number of bills attempting to fund cancer research while claiming to be an anti-cancer charity, so he's got that over the Komen guys.

If elected, Romney will put a stop to this sort of activity. Also: Small Government!

Man, you may have found the dumbest blog on the internet. Is that gal really claiming that an organization whose only purpose is to move money (from donors to, theoretically, researchers and, actually, right-wing lobbyists) should reasonably have a fourth again as much overhead as an organization that distributes actual services to millions of customers/patients?

We all know Mitt would be just as successful if he was born to a low-income woman with reduced access to pre and post natal care because America and bootstraps and Jesus and Joseph Smith.

Not to mention she has numbers pulled out of her ass. PP has actual overhead with all those frickin' buildings too. With all the money SGK rakes in, you'd think they'd build at least one SGK cancer treatment center somewhere.

He's trying to gain cred with people who consider his religion to be just a couple degrees removed from Satanism and meanwhile he's burning his bridges with moderates and independents.

What's not to love about this story?

Beginning to suspect that part of reason for the LDS's prominent involvement in the California Prop H8 debate recently was to make Mormons more palatable to so-called Christian social conservatives (In a "See, we're 'real' Christians too cos we also hate teh gheys" kinda way) as part of a set up to Mitts run here.

Boy, for a guy that actually sought out Planned Parenthood's endorsement, he sure has had a change of heart. Being from Mass, I have to say that Mitt was a good administrator as Governor, but the only memorable thing he did in this state was the health care mandate. If the G.O.P. is so much more principled than the Democrats, how can this guy, who is really a white Obama, get the nomination.

Could be, they're spelling his name, and either the person with the 'R' on the shirt isn't there yet, and 'O' and 'M' are out of position.. but that still looks bad.

No, sorry, it is you who is out of touch with reality.

Once again.

Komen is an organization whose whole purpose is fighting cancer and you're trying to crucify them for even considering not paying their protection money to Planned Parenthood? What the HELL is wrong with you?

I assure you, Romney is not "out of touch", only the far left squirrels are on the side of Planned Parenthood in this, and that's because they've lost their damn minds.

"We don't care how benevolent your organization is or how much it has done to fight help find a cure for breast cancer... None of THAT matters! You BETTER keep the money flowing to Planned Parenthood or ELSE!"

Don't be so hard on Mitt. I'm sure he'll change his mind if he thinks you don't like his position.

2012-02-07 06:47:43 AM
I support Komen's right to deny funding to Planned Parenthood. I think it is completely wrong and short-sighted, but they are a private entity and can decide which organizations they wish to support.

BUT...Their blatant dishonesty is what I have a huge problem with. They lied, and continue to lie about their motivations. If they want to get up front and say, "we won't give money to PP because they do abortions, and we don't like that", then that's fine. At least then, the public knows the truth and can make an informed decision as to whether or not their money should go to them.

As for me, I'll never support them again. They've done good work in the past, I'll grant you. But no dollar of mine will ever help them again.

The money they donated to PP went toward cancer screenings for the poor and under-insured, and they tried to cut off funding for what appeared to be purely political reasons using suspect logic. But you're probably just trolling, and no stranger to suspect logic, so whatever.

There's plenty of other organizations that fight cancer that aren't also funding rightwing extremists.

Not to mention, it's pretty obvious that the leadership of Komen are liars. I don't like liars. Gutless, cowardly liars who can't just say, "We aren't going to fund PP because they do abortions." No, they have to cower behind "funding" and "investigations."

2 things:
A) How is this 'out of touch' when he's running in the REPUBLICAN primary? Did you see the article w/the polls of republicans relating to PP? NOT supporting ANYTHING that goes against PP would be out of touch with his base.

B) I guarantee there are a large number of people who have no idea what the current kerfluffle is about and still have strong positive brand recognition of Komen. This is an issue that really riles up a relatively small, politically active base. A lot of those old ladies who actually DO those cancer walks? They'll still be out for donations later this year. They either won't know or won't care about this - they trust Komen BECAUSE it's a large charity with all the corporate backing that it has. It's popular so it has to do good after all, right?

Komen isn't going to crash and burn because they operate largely on low info voters and a VERY positive brand image. Call me when the NFL pulls sponsorship and I'll talk about an organization going down. Until then, this is a bump in the road, not a death knell.

/yes I support PP.
//No I don't agree with SGK's decision.

Hey, millionaire CEO's are totally just as expensive (and mission-critical) as well-equipped bricks-and-mortar clinics staffed by doctors and nurses. Don't be hating.

Just more reactionaries who know they are wrong; none of these shiatstains have the courage of their convictions. Hell, Eric Rudolph is probably the closest thing to an honest anti-choicer there is. He's a homicidal monster, but nobody can deny he took his opposition to a supposed "abortion holocaust" to its logical end.

The funniest part about all of this is that the angriest I have ever seen Mitt Romney was when his opponent for the MA governorship accused him of being pro life. He went on a 5 minute rant about how outrageous that was, how he had been pro choice for decades and always would be, and how he disavowed the support of pro life organizations.
