Been illegal in NJ for awhile now, we have big liquor store chains but no liquor sales in walmarts and most super markets.

me thinks they improperly defined "loss leader". TTBOMK a retailer cannot sell below cost. they may just mark up the item a penny - obviously they are still losing money due to their handling & overhead expenses.
put the bread & milk in the far back corner and those in need of staples have to march past all the tasty pre-packaged convenience goodies with juicy profit margins.

As a beer consumer, I say I'm not going to make my beer buying decisions based on a $1.50 difference in price between retailers. The day I start counting pennies on useless purchases is the day I realize that I'm living beyond my means and I need to scale back.
