He didn't say anything remotely close to that, subby.

"I feel sorry for girls in the music industry. They do have a very short shelf life," he said in an interview with the Mail on Sunday. "For instance, Duffy: Who? Gone. She was massive. And I don't doubt for a second that the same thing will happen to Adele."

The other guy in the article did mention her weight.

Hard to believe the modmins would reward such a complete bullshiat headline with a green.

No wait. No it isn't hard to believe at all.

Noel is an industry veteran who knows a thing or two about the ephemeral nature of fame. He flew too close to the sun in the late '90s with his band Oasis, and wasis banished to the halls of irrelevance for several yearsstill.

When I first heard Adele on the radio, the first person my mind went to was Aretha Franklin. Aretha isn't exactly skinny either.

Then I started trying to guess where she was from. 'St. Louis? New Orleans? Chicago? One of those blues cities... the fark do you mean she's from England? Holy shiat.'

no, she'll disappear because White Chick Soul Singers have a shelf life of about 3 years before the public moves onto another one.

This.

Also - people will forget her - not because she's supposedly "fat" (which she's not, but that's a whole other convo) - but because she's not very good. She's not unique or original

Her first CD's hype was "Look at me, I'm not Amy Winehouse" and her second CD's hype was "Look at me, I'm not Lady Gaga" - she's all about who she's not and it's because who she is isn't very interesting. It's watered down white soul for middle aged people.

People will get tired of their token "fat" friend and forget her when the next shiny object comes along. And then she'll put out another CD and claim that she's not that thing.

As much as I'm disgusted by the success of the hype machine behind this mediocre talent, at least she's not personally objectionable like Katy Perry. Full-on AW who gets a pass because she teases with her boobs and talks, much like the christian conservative Frat girl that she is, about doing naughty things. Grow up, Men, you've been hoodwinked by a moron.

I remembered stumbling on her Chasing Pavements video when it first came out. I suppose that was at least before she got popular over here in the U.S.. I liked the song and the weird people rolling the fark around on the ground.

As with most of these new popular artists though, their playlist hits the radio so frequently that it is very very easy to get sick of a song and even the artist in short measure. Throw in a few commercials that use the music and that shiat gets old. (That "Rumor Has It" song makes me feel all stabby for some reason.)
I caught Florence + The Machine before it blew up as well but now I'd rather skip their songs when I hear them pop up.

It is making me think that an artist isn't really an Island, and that continued success is also based on having other good acts on the radio to complement your own music.

Radio station around here many years back used to do a "Metallica Double Shot" quite frequently. I tolerated it at first but quickly felt like punching my radio.

Wow, I never thought I would go into a Fark thread that had a reference to my favorite high school concert venue in the initial comment. First concert I went to was Foo Fighters there.

Good times...

she has a good voice, but she does not sound like aretha, nor a blues singer from new orleans, or the south. She has a bit of white girl soul.

And while not morbidly obese. she still is a bit fat.

Then that's only denial. She hasn't had a single crack the Billboard top 100 in 14 years.

I'll be the first to agree that Billboard =/= good, but it does mean popular.

Okay, I really can't remember that happening, and I'm from around Providence... but it still sounds frickin sweet.

I was hoping I could track down a press account, so I could at least give you a good date, but I didn't find one, and I don't remember exactly when it was, but I'm pretty sure it was the early otts (2001-3?). I remember what happened a little more clearly, though. I should clarify, by the way, that I was not actually there for this. I was heavily involved in the Downcity arts scene, and working a few blocks away when it happened. It was covered in the Phoenix, but most of these details came to us from people who said they were there or knew someone who was, including some staffers. Please remember that I'm reassembling this from conversations of a decade ago, and beer was involved.

Oasis came to town, and during the show at Lupo's, two or three songs in, a shoe came flying out of the audience and pegged Noel Gallagher in the face (more like the temple, maybe, but still, front of head). He stopped the show, and some people were laughing. He got super pissed and stormed off stage. At first he refused to come back out, but they somehow talked him into it, and the show started again. Almost immediately, a second shoe -- and it's worth mentioning that this was a *different* shoe (meaning, presumably not from the same person) -- hit him. Right as the music stopped, someone yelled out, "This is a Blur town!" That was the end of the show.

Somehow, as the staff hustled the (mostly, but not entirely) disappointed audience out the door, they were 'unable' to find the *two* patrons each missing a shoe. Before I was involved in city arts, I was doing downtown food service, serving these same kind of patrons, and a lot of the club staff. Some of the latter from Lupo's told me that they detested UK bands ("teabaggers," they called them, years before the political movement) as precious and self-important. (The Cranberries were supposedly the most unbearable of all. The last time they came to Lupo's around that time, the *entire staff* supposely took the night off, requiring the club to recruit from other clubs all over town.) So it wouldn't surprise me if Lupo's didn't try to find out who threw the shoes.

And it's true, Providence is a Blur town.

Wait, she's still around? I thought she flamed out in the 90's or something, got all Pearl Jam with the "I made music that the audience loved, but I didn't like, so I'm making music that I like and my audience will abandon! Oh, and I'll make my next album title a 500 word essay on a topic that doesn't matter because you can't get 500 words on a CD cover anyway."

I haven't listened to pop music regularly since "classic" rock took over the airwaves, although my kids play it so I hear it pass by. I now work where pop music plays constantly. One voice, one song kept catching my attention. My thought was "is Grace Slick drunk again and making the charts?" It turned out to be a song sung by Adele.
