At least someone was being diligent and noticed the missing money. There are many more elderly and disabled people who are victims of their legal guardians and no one ever knows. The scumbags can justify it so easily too - "it was a gift", "it was for her", "what makes me feel better puts me in a better place to take care of him", or even, "I deserve it, I don't get paid to put up with this". Sometimes I wish that every vulnerable adult had a court appointed and monitored guardian, but even those aren't 100% safe.

$40,000 in three months. Never ceases to amaze me the capacity for poor people to spend, spend, spend and have nothing to show for it.

/POS truck doesn't count as an asset.

Teen Wolf Blitzer: A Ford Ranger!? Really?

A $3,000 Excursion, really? Know how rough that thing must be to sell for $3k? The markup alone is supposed to be $3k, so it has essentially no value.

Did I read the article right and it said he is 34 and has an adult daughter?

Put him in a room and charge people $10 to come in and beat him with a rubber hose for 5 minutes. I am pretty sure that the $40,000 will not only be replaced but it will earn a lot of interest!

High gasoline prices have devalued the Excursion, which has about the same foot print as a studio apartment.

You would have your question answered if you had bothered to read the article.

FTA...According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, Sandra received $65,000 from a settlement after a health care provider did not lock her wheelchair properly, causing her to injure her face and lose some teeth. Her father, John, was was later named the trustee of the special needs trust fund account through Seacoast Bank.

True more often than not, it seems. Many moons ago, I managed Section 8 rental housing and many of the older folks had absent and/or addict children or grandchildren as their representative payees. One lady came very close to starvation because every dime of her money was being embezzled and she was too ashamed to tell anyone.

For the younger SSI recipients disabled for reasons such as alcoholism or learning disabilities, often they named their drinking and tweaking buddies (themselves welfare recipients) as payees.

There are so many people who genuinely deserve benefits, but in many places the system is so farked that SSI has just stepped in to replace welfare for people who have used up their lifetime benefits and feel the system still owes them a check every month.

My 2010 Suburban however, has a similar footprint but gets me to Vegas on half a tank of gas (no it's not a 200 gallon tank, it's' 30 gallon). Gotta love the feature that drops it to a V4 when cruising on level ground or on hills, using cruise control, etc.

averages 20mpg overall, not bad for a huge auto.

\two young kids, mother in law and the wife to cart around
\\Plus the Golden Retriever
\\\Plus luggage, it all fits!

those wearing nicer clothing who handle trusts or is it estates dip their hand in for a tidy self-appointed sum when the situation allows. little cherry jobs that are appointed to family and friends of to benefit by. these actions don't make the newspapers but some should. there is lots of easy sleazy money behind the scenes things that worker drones don't benefit from.
there was a good Law & Order episode with actor David Hyde Pierce (i think), who had easy access to the personal belongings of some dearly departed. His character built a stable of high performance sports cars using ill-found gain, until Vincent D'onofrio & sexy sidekick exposed his shenanigans.
i wish Charlie was here to help but he's in Sunny Philly right now, something about guardian ad litum and power of attorney and what-not.

Remember that the article was written by a journalism major - the major where all other major flunk-outs go to graduate. How else do you explain MSNBC?

In other news, $10 says she has cerebral palsy to begin with due to some stupid actions of the "parents".

These are the people having all the children.

If you give me 2:1, I'll lay that the wheelchair wheel locks were tampered by dad.

When you asked her if it would be OK, it's not right to have your son holding her head and nodding it up and down.
