I'm a little confused...didn't the article say they say that only humanitarian type accounts were allowed?
FTFA :
Longstanding U.S. regulations already prohibited American citizens or entities from virtually all direct and indirect transactions involving Iran or the government of Iran, aside from those exempted under general licenses for transactions involving food, medicine, remittances and humanitarian relief.
Am I missing something? Are we freezing these accounts, too? Or are these the only accounts to freeze? Goddammit, I seriously hate articles that are so sparse on details!

Personally I think Obama needs to fire up the particle cannon and write rude messages into the Iranian countryside. At least if I were President work would begin on such a death ray, if only for pure international pranking purposes.

Is this a repeat from 1979? Economic sanctions worked out so well then too. If it weren't for George Bush going over there to persuade the Iranians to hold the hostages until after the 1980 election, they might have gone broke or sumthin.

The Iranians have still had access to the network (SWIFT) banks use to move money around, which they shouldn't have had access to because of various US, EU and UN laws and resolutions. But for some reason a loophole existed where they could use it.

Ahmadinejad wants the threat of war lingering over the heads of Iranians. A lot of Iranians oppose the Islamic Republic and want change, but these Iranians are still nationalist and will put up with Ahmadinejad and the Ayatollahs if they believe their country is under attack. Remember, Iran is not like Iraq, a hastily-assembled country carved out of the Ottoman Empire. Iran has been a country since the 7th century BC, and continuously since 1501.
The reality of the current situation is that the Iranian government is weakening, and Ahmadinejad's position is especially weak. He wants to curb the power of the Ayatollahs, but he has been unsuccessful so far. The threat of war could strengthen his position politically. Without such a threat, the Green movement could become uncontrollable, and the Ayatollahs could step in and make him a mere puppet.

Ahmadindinjihad actually isnt in control, he's kinda like their version of a foriegn PR guy. Obviously not PR for us so much as the muslim world. You kill him, and they just get some other PR guy to do the schtick, and nothing really changes. The Ayatolla's call the shots, sure theres a couple really influential ones but theres actually a whole damn spread out collection clerics who actually throw their collective weight around. Kill a couple and a few of the other loudmouths use that as leverage to whip up the country, a country that is mostly behind them (think all republican citizens behind a GOP congress).
Gonna need more than a few S.E.A.L teams to wipe em all out. And not all of those operations will go down smooth. Welcome to Iraq part 2, and this time we KNOW they have dirty bombs in the very least.
Israel wont nuke them, we wouldnt ever let it happen (gas would = $15 a gallon). We would put a stop order to all their checks that day and not pay again until we switched over to cold fusion in 50 years. The israelies will just jdam the hell outa some worthless reactor while the iranians are busy building another one.

This is retarded. A war with Iran will get us jack shiat. Just like the (illegal) war against Iraq. We're entering farking WARS here over the ideals of legislators who have an average age of 65. These motherfarkers are still living in the cold war. Guess what? This isn't our war. This isn't my war. I'm not asking for war with Iran. I don't want to be afraid that my family will suffer a retaliatory nuclear, biological, or chemical attack, from Iran or any sympathetic nation that's just tired of just blowing the hell out of any nation we feel like picking on.
As an American citizen, this shiat does NOT represent my interests. Back the fark off. If this about oil, then fark, I'm willing to garage my Jaguar and farking pedal my bicycle to work twelve miles a day. The cost of human life isn't worth this.
The cost of human life is NEVER worth this. The bastards in charge use words like 'acceptable losses' to describe the scores of rotting corpses which characterize any conflict. A conflict which is ultimately meaningless.
Ask yourself this -
1) is the current situation with Iran worth going to war over?
2) if so, would YOU sacrifice YOUR LIFE for this cause?
3) I didn't farking think so, so don't demand that any other poor bastard dies in your stead.

It's mental masturbation. Who else had nukes? The USSR. China. Pakistan. India. North farking Korea, which is quite possible the Most Unstable/Craziest of Empires. Oh wait, there's farking Israel, which not only holds a nuclear arsenal, but is taking its allowance from its generous, naive uncle, the USA, and using it to fund false flag operations (which are engineered to blame the US) and execute civilians via terroristic means (like blowing up their cars while they commute to work).
You'll say, 'well, that guy he killed may have been a scientist, but he was working on weaponizing nuclear shiat!'
Doesn't matter. Still a farking civilian and that shiat is OFF-FARKING-LIMITS until war is declared.
Oh, and, you brought up the topic that Iran may hate the US. Let's address that. Does Iran really hate the US? If they do, could it possibly be because of some sort of interaction with the US that took place in the past? Dare I delve into history and bring up those obvious skeletons? This sort of thing is just gonna end up in a Ronald Reagan/Iran-Contra debate, and nobody wants that.

Appears we're hoping to provoke Iran into lashing-out into one act of war against our hundreds of provocations. So far, Iran hasn't been as impulsive as Japan was in 1941 (from our blockades and so on during that period).

You act like since some retarded countries have nukes it's OK to let even more retarded countries have nukes. Nuclear proliferation will be the end of the world if it keeps getting this bad. Yes, I am perfectly OK with the USA having fewer nukes. I think I'd rather have the USA cease to exist than the world.
Does it matter why Iran hates us? The fact is that they do. We have fundamental differences between our countries and culture. No doubt there is A LOT more reason for them to hate us than that, but I don't see what we can do to appease them other than give them Israel on a silver platter.
I'm open to suggestions on how to handle them. Should we send them a letter saying: "We'd like to be friends now. We think you're cool. But, we still don't want you to have nukes, because the world doesn't need more nukes. K? Bye! Love you lots!"

Japan deserved the embargo (not a blockade) because it was doing some farked-up shiat in China. Iran is not quite as bad as Japan was, primarily because it keeps its shiat inside its borders.
Both the Iranian and US governments benefit from increased tensions. War would be another catastrophe for both countries.
