Just looking at the headline it seemed like the story was going to be about a republican elected official... But teacher isn't surprising either.

People are so quick to say this kinda stuff but I personally have worked at places where people did things you'd figure they would get fired over but didn't in the end.

I think that it's something to do with us (Atheists) being perceived as abominations, demons, worshippers of the Antichrist and so on as we are not following their belief structure.

So by throwing holy water you might be attempting to drive off a demon, or free said Atheist of the demon so they can rejoin the fold.

Or get yourself up in front of the beak on an assault charge. Why you'd have a pressing need for a criminal record whilst trying to hold down a teaching job I've no real idea though.

I agree, that is messed up. No matter how important something is to you, you can't go around doing stuff like that. I doubt she'd like it if a Pastafarian threw Ragu on her since she doesn't believe in the same things...

The more and more I read the news, the more I get irritated with it. The original Fark article said she threw water on someone. But according to the link someoneelse posted from the Miami Herald, she pretended to do so.

Search for her name, and you'll find not just the two incidents cited in the article, but also one in which she told two little Haitian kids to stand by a trash can to represent their country - after all, the Haiti earthquake happened because "Haiti made a pact with the Devil."

Again, this isn't a "union thing", as those grinding their cute little anti-union axes keep pushing - I highly doubt their union is saying, "you can't fire the racist biatch."

Yeah, institutional inertia can be a real biatch. I think unions might make it easier (not that they necessarily do) to fall into, but I've worked plenty of non-union shops - at-will employment states - that required an act of God to fire someone.
