I am begining to loathe Christians.
What kind of monsters live in that town?
What kind of parents raise kids like that?

What kind of people do they hire to teach?

Christians, that's who.

why don't you call them by their real name, conservative republicans.
Or you can allow them to get away with using Christianity for their own means.

The farked up thing is the local 'Christian' evangelicals are thinking:

"They're killing themselves off. Great success! Lets keep the pressure up."

If local municipalities want to exterminate residents of a certain persuasion, that should be their right. Local citizens know what is best for them, not some Big Government Bureaucrats.

What happens in a couple years when the kids realize they were straight all along and that them being gay was a fad at the time.

Wow, I've only read the first page and I already have a sick feeling in my stomach and an urge to vomit. WTF how can a school administration (and the farking kids too) be so evil?

Key difference being that I'd say that a majority of Americans aren't happy with this behavior and wouldn't be afraid to say so. Conservatives (Christians in particular) are totally fine with it. Hell, Bachmann was a serious contender and Santorum is *still* in the race.

Maybe its just because I'm an elite New England liberal who is out of touch with real america, but I just can't figure out how people can whip themselves up into such a rage over gays.

Because religious belief always inevitably leads to this result, and to play the "Not a true Scottsman" game only serves to push the focus away from the real problem, which is people willing to sacrifice their ability to use logic and reason and replace it with adherence to a random book pulled off a medieval shelf.

I grew up in Blaine, a suburb of Minneapolis located a few miles from Anoka. I'm a straight white male, and I avoided that place as much as I could. If I recall correctly, at the time I was in school there wa sa white supremacist youth group in Anoka called "The All American Boys." Had a few friends chased around by them because they looked "faggy."

Avoid the northwestern suburbs and district 6 if you're in MN. Not very pleasant places to be unless you're a Bachmannite

Christianity, in it's current form, I'm sure Jesus himself would be sickened by. It is no longer a reflections of Christ's teachings, but rather a tool used to control people and governments.

FTFA: "This is an assault on moral standards," read one recent letter to the community paper. "Let's stop this dangerous nonsense before it's too late and more young boys and girls are encouraged to 'come out' and practice their 'gayness' right in their own school's homosexual club."

Yeah, that sounds reasonable. I mean, if you don't nip it in the bud, next they might be dancing!

Are Conservatives just missing that part of their brain where you remember and learn from history, or are purposefully just ignoring the part where they have been on the losing issue of every social issue or civil rights fight ever?

Probably the same way the Germans whipped themselves into a rage over the Jews; being told, over and over and over again, that they're out to destroy you and your way of life.

It was used like that since at least the Middle Ages. But... I keep thinking at least back then people got something out of it. A sense of community? On the third hand... I guess they're still getting a sense of community from it. Just - for the crazies - a much more primal, tribal version. You know... Barbaric.

Farking Gerrymandering. That is the only reason that Bachman's adjacent to MPLS has a consolidated conservative base. I mean, Elk River and the area is also conservative, but still.

Minneapolis is awesome, even if they don't have very many microbreweries. They have/get some amazing music.

This kind of thing could be mitigated by vouchers and school choice. Parents would be able to move their gay children to better schools, and the anti-gay bigots could stew in their own evangelical schools. Yes, it would suck for gay children of evangelicals, but at least some might be saved instead of none.

Way to go libs! Those teachers unions are totally worth gay kids getting lynched.

When you look at the demographics, it's six of one, half a dozen of the other. Considering the relationship between religious beliefs and social conservatism, I'd expect the trend to be driven by a certain factor...

How the fark do we know something like this? Recent historical figures are so white-washed, that even if we posit the existence of a historical jesus, the chances that any information about him is legitimate is infinitesimal.

I've read all four gospels more than once in several translations, and I Cannot find a single passge where Jesus even mentions gays, much less tells his followers to hate/persecute them.

He does however say considerable about loving your neighbor, not judging others, and most especially helping the poor and weak in your midst. This last point he hammers home on no less that 5-6 seperate occassions that I can think of just off the top of my head.

So why does so much of the public face of "Christianity" in this country * , particularly the evangelical variety, seem to spend all of its time hating gays and not say, running soup kitchens ?

It's because they depend on instilling in their followers a "bunker mentality"> To maintiant he kind of control they want, their leaders have to convince them that they are a small and persecuted minority whose only chance of survival is doing EXACTLY what their leaders say, without question (Which is why in OK the guillible were convinced to come out in droves to support a ballott initiative banning the use of "Sharia Law" in the state. The people that voted for the initiative seemed to really believe that having Sharia law imposed on them against their will was a very real threat, even though you could probably fit all the state's muslims comfortably in the "banquet room: of a local Old Country Buffet

(*note the qualfier, 90% of Americans are some form/flavor/intensity of Chrisitian, and most are good people whose religion has led them to have a poitve effect on the world)

Back then they didn't even get that. They got treated like crap in this life and told to accept it, in hope that something may happen in the next. Also used as a tool to commit atrocities, because nothing fires up the masses quite like "Those godless heathens don't belong on our holy land!"

This is why I have turned my back on religion and never go to church anymore.

2012-02-06 10:04:36 AM
I couldn't read that past the first page.

The best thing this country could do is take every bible in the nation and have one gigantic bonfire.

I have tried for years to come to terms with spirituality vs. religion. While not a hardcore "there is no god" atheist, I have tried to maintain the idea that organized religion had it's good and bad points, and when used correctly it can be a positive influence on people's lives. Every day, that position becomes less and less defensible.

I hope there is a god. He has a lot to answer for.

Well, to be fair, Jesus did spend a lot of time preaching about the evilness of gays. It's practically half of the New Testament! He even specifically said that he died for our sins, except for buttsecks. That one still counts, he wasn't going to take the rap for that crap. Well, I mean, it's been a while since I read the bible, but I'm pretty sure it's in there.

I like reinterpreting sentences with ambiguous structure. My take on this is that the "all-american boys" chased your friends, and their motivation was that they, themselves, looked "faggy."

"Awww snap herr Bob, my makeup is so.pulling.it.off, let's go chase some kids!"
