I'm at least $63 below average then.

Though I already knew that.

I spent about $40 at the bar before the game (watching the Bruins game) and maybe a couple bucks worth of food and whiskey when I got home.

i don't think it's fair to lump "new couches and big screen tvs" in with game-day spending. those aren't consumables and were probably going to be purchased relatively soon anyway.

2012-02-06 01:08:45 PM
Maybe on a per-household basis, but certainly not on a per-individual basis.

I was finishing a case of beer we bought on friday and had leftovers. Since neither NY or NE is "my team", I didn't (nor will I) buy any other merchandise or apparel. I guess my cost for the game was $0?

You could argue that I drank $3 worth of beer or some such, but still... what do I win?

2012-02-06 01:14:20 PM
I bought a bunch of snacks and beer, the leftovers of which will serve as my meals the rest of the week. I do my part to help the economy.

2012-02-06 01:14:40 PM
...only to watch the Patriots choke during yet another Super Bowl attempt.

Lost Thought 00: Maybe on a per-household basis, but certainly not on a per-individual basis.

Yeah, the party I put on at my place cost me about $100, but that was for 15 people, so spread across everyone it wasn't nearly that bad.

I got to the bar early to watch the Bruins game as well. The bartender chick got a nail in the tire of her Porsche on the way into work and asked me if I could fix it for her. After the Bruins game I took it over to my shop, plugged the tire and went back to wait for the SB. I ended up staying for the whole game, pounded a shiatload of beers, and attacked the buffet spread they had setup for the SB.

Total investment, an hour of my time to go plug her tire. Take that average Super Bowl viewer.

Super Bowl Sunday is basically 2nd Thanksgiving.

Spent about $15 on food to make / bring to the neighbors for the party.

A bartender chick with a Porsche? And you only spent an hour "plugging her tire"?

2012-02-06 01:29:16 PM
I was going to go to the restaruant/courtyard I visited last night anyway (which I do 2-3 times a week). And I drink the same amount every day anyway. So, no.

Maybe some people use the Super Bowl as an excuse to party. I use "today is a day ending in 'Y'" as my excuse.

2012-02-06 01:31:30 PM
I spent a lot on food and drinks as I hosted the party, but it also doubled as an event for my parents anniversary and my son's birthday - so I would have spent the same amount anyway

2012-02-06 01:32:59 PM
Game day merchandise? Yeah, I'm totally gonna go out and buy a Super Bowl XLVI shirt when my team isn't in the Super Bowl.

2012-02-06 01:41:25 PM
$0. In fact I made a little money.

You'd be surprised how much good and trusted bartenders earn. $100/hour+ during prime hours (Pour 100 drinks in an hour at $1 tip per drink) is not uncommon.

Plus, they work when everyone else plays, so they don't have to fight traffic and can afford to live farther out in cheaper areas.

Fan apparel.
Two tickets (face value).
Round trip air fare out of Boston
Accommodations (nothing fancy).
$7,500.00 before stepping into Lucas Stadium (food, transportation, drinks, misc stuff not tallied yet).

I didn't even make it through the entire game, let alone buy anything. It's because I hate America.

2012-02-06 02:19:46 PM
I spent last night prepping inventory to ship to warehouse today. So I'm ahead a few hundred for not watching the game. Of course I would have shipped eventually... and this is February when sales are in the ditch... shiat, I should have watched more of the game.

I only caught the last 1:09 of that game and the first play I saw was 100% WTF.

2012-02-06 02:19:54 PM
Are there better sales on TVs after the super bowl? I'm hoping so, I'd buy one. Other than that, yeah, no spending for me.

2012-02-06 02:22:09 PM
Sounds about right, but most of that cost was 2-pounds of peel-and-eat shrimp which was completely worth the price tag.

2012-02-06 02:23:35 PM
I bought a can of coke and a tin of pringles, I am below average.

2012-02-06 02:24:10 PM
I bought Chex(actually Kroger Rice Bits) cereal for homemade chex mix. The beer I drank was left over from a party last week.

We had a good time.

Usually the new tvs start shipping in the second half of February, so yes. President's Day is usually a good sale day.

Female bartender. Who likely has boobs. I'll let you fill in the rest, especially if she lets random bar patrons "plug her tire".

You can get a used one for $12 - $24k on Ebay.

And some bartenders make a lot of money.

It's a long story, but she just divorced her husband. She started bartending to make some extra cash and she is also a tennis pro.

I smoked some ribs and bought a new keg for the kegerator. I do that a lot of Sundays though.

Story is Vick didn't watch the game. Was doing a scouting report at The Puppy Bowl.

I spent $20, but won $30 betting straight up against the Pats.

my neighbor won a ticket to the game. One ticket. And the hotel was in Louisville. He had to take a bus to and from the game. Who wants to watch the super bowl at the stadium by themselves and stay at a city that far away? He opted for the cash option instead.

Who was giving away one ticket? That's odd.

Yeah, I'd sell it too.

/Made hundreds selling my option on two Bears SB tickets in 2006 when it was clear they had a good chance to make it.

So on average, $63 wasted?

I'd have more fun making paper sailboats out of $1 bills and setting them on fire in a recreation of the Battle of Lepanto in my driveway.

My wife made chicken fajitas, which cost probably $7 total.

But I am relatively certain that we would have eaten anyway.

Was really tempted to spend $6K to go with several friends (tickets, transportation, hotel)... but the more I thought about it the more I felt that on Monday I'd be asking myself "WTF did I do that for???" ... so I just went to a friends party - home theater with plush seats and ceiling to floor HD projection screen made it feel like I was at the game. I was the designated driver so no drinking but lots of food (and said friend gave me liquor to bring home that I am consuming over the next several days in celebration).

I'll probably drop a few bucks on merchandise, but I've got a business trip to NYC in a week and I know where to find the right street vendors...

2012-02-06 10:00:16 PM
$35 on 20 sea scallops...
$15 on bacon...
$8 on gas to get to and from the party...
$5 on the game grid...

...yup, right there.

/bacon wrapped scallops FTW!

I invited my entire D&D/Star Wars RPG group to the party, and except for the one who was working they all made it.

/I know at least one game of Magic was played during halftime
//they had to eat a vodka gummi bear for every point of damage taken

That's totally a fair way to describe things, since no one would have paid for food without a football game to watch.

/Party food is more expensive than real food, but it's not entirely an optional expense for people who eat every day

42 dollars, divided by 5.5 people.

Yes, the child is only half a person.

About 30 dollars on food, and after the game we went up to Modell's and got a t-shirt and a hat.
