fruitloop: If they do this list next year, Louie and Archer will show up on it.

I noticed The Office wasn't there.

This, this and that. Office UK didn't have a bad episode either.

The Third Man: How could any list of "coolest shows" miss out on The Prisoner?

It's there. Funny, I was just talking to a friend who grew up in England, and watched it on release. I saw it a year later when it ran on PBS as a summer replacement. Anyone who ever saw it remembers it.

/hated the finale, but understand why McGoohan did it that way.

It's on there.

Don't feel bad, though - that interface is abysmal. DesignFail.

Are you kidding me? If I wanted to watch a show about mopey teens in the 90s, all I had to do was show up to high school the next day.

The acting on that show, particularly by the family, of any given episode, was and is better than any family drama on TV.

Rip Dashrock: I can remember when Miami Vice appeared on tv. I thought that was the coolest show ever. Watched it a few months ago, the magic was gone.
The test of time makes a big difference in lots of television shows.

You must have watched an episode from Seasons 3, 4, or 5. The first two seasons will always be awesome.

To quote Noogie Lamont:

And you know that!

It's worth watching just to see two great British actors slum it up with the best. Oh, and for farkin Omar.

50? Oh, come on!
That's it - I'm sick of the Internet and its farking "lists".
What are they good for? Driving up clicks & hits and "discussion" on sites like fark?
Forget it.

That being said, the list misses many good ones and some of my favourites and also has a few that I don't like.

"The Shield" was farking awesome in every sense of the word. I watched season five in Baghdad and would actually go to the TV room a half hour early to get a good seat - it was that popular.

A lot of the guys from The Shield are showing up on "Sons of Anarchy" and "Justified."

OldManDownDRoad: DrippinBalls:
Combat!

My ol' man was a combat veteran and as a rule, HATED any war movie or TV show with a passion. But for some reason he liked Combat! and watched it every week with my brother and me. He once mentioned it was the only show that featured what he remembered most: walking endlessly in the mud, never having enough of anything, never having a clue as to what was going on, and trying to figure out where his next meal was coming from. It was also the first show to show what we now call PTSD, where a squad member (someone like Fess Parker) simply dropped his rifle and started plowing the fields of an abandoned farm. They just left him plowing and figured the medics would come for him eventually.

And as a special "get off my lawn" comment: it went to hell when they switched to color.

/lawn, off

Hauntingv isual from that show was a scared guy that was an "arborist?" and pointed out a sniper.

David Duke's Wide World of Racism?
Ellen Degeneres Explores Meat?
Taunting the Taliban - Live from Afghanistan! ?
Back People %@$# Like This, White People %@$# Like That?
Extreme Woodworking?

List is total fail.

Combat!

I've been watching the late-night reruns lately and find that show is actually a lot better than I remember it being from when I watched it as a kid when it first ran. That is, if you can put aside the fact that the countryside of Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands, etc. all looks like the foothills of southern California.

I don't smoke, but damn, everyone on that show looked cool as shiat doing it.

2012-02-06 03:57:11 PM
I like a lot of these shows, but the list utterly fails if it's trying to find shows that people won't make fun of you for watching, as per subby's suggestion.

Nobody has ever made fun of anybody for watching Firefly. Ever. Seriously.

2012-02-06 04:01:57 PM
Chris Morris made their list three times, for The Day Today, Nathan Barley and The IT Crowd. Does that make him the coolest TV persona of all time?

Brass Eye and Jam also deserve spots on the list.

Along similar lines I would add Knowing Me Knowing You and The Armando Iannucci Shows. And The Mary Whitehouse Experience. Oh and Mock the Week, The Goodies (better than Monty Python) and of course some Scottish comedies such as Chewin the Fat and Rab C Nesbitt. And Only an Excuse? because Scottish football deserves it.
