50:1 odds that the first scoring play is a safety?

Those are pretty damn low odds, all things considered.

Nice. I would've put at the most $100 down on a bet like that, but what do I know?

If real, then I'm sure he made quite a few other crazy bets for the game that didn't pan out. Hitting on that means he probably came out ahead but it may not be 90K ahead after counting the bets that were lost.

/don't want to be a hater. Good on him for the big brass ones.

To bad he bet $100,000 on the Pats to win

at 50:1, I'd normally you'd be better of wiping your arse with the $1000.

FTA: UPDATE: We spoke with Lyons via Twitter after the game, who says Jona had another winning ticket for $8,500 on just a safety, and that he won $90,000 total on the game.

Nice!

50:1? The ticket actually says NY safety - so not only was he betting on a safety but that the Giants would score it..... 50-1 seems pathetic odds given the bet. We actually we're discussing just such a bet right after it happened - I had decided that 250-1 might be reasonable odds for a plain, old, "safety" as the first score - I would have expected 500-1 to actually have to pick the team that scored it.

/Browns 150-1 to win the superbowl next year.... so you're saying there's a chance....

I would put at most $2 on that kind of bet given that it's an incredibly stupid bet to make.

Even shiattier odds when you consider that it had to be a Giants safety.

He got hosed. Other places had the safety at 80:1

When is Tom Brady going to collect the winnings?

protectyourlimbs: When is Tom Brady going to collect the winnings?

I was thinking Referee, Brady could have easily just went into the endzone and fell down....the ref on the other hand was in cahoots with the giants punter and had everything setup, he just needed Brady to drop back to pass, which considering N.E.'s offense would be a fairly safe risk.

I heard on the radio that that prop bet was going at 2500:1 odds. This guy is an idiot if that is true.

On offshore sites that are seedy about payouts, sure. Good luck getting 2.5 million from an offshore betting site. Vegas always caps most odds and payouts because on the off chance that a payout *does* occur, it doesn't break the bank.

Case in point, the guy that bet on 2 bets for the Cards to win the series...the Mirage had to set the odds at no greater than 999-1 and they capped his maximum bet to 250.00 on each. He stated in his pics that he had originally wanted to bet 1,000.00 on each one...the Mirage wouldn't let him.

???????

So then just place an additional three bets at $250.00 each. If the Mirage won't take 'em all, I'm betting there's at least three other casinos in Vegas to place the remaining three bets.

/It ain't rocket science.

//Cheers!

The Sportsbook at the Mirage runs the other sportsbettors in Vegas. If they wanted to maximize his bet on those particular 2....2 bets they made substantial accommodations to allow him to make, I doubt he could get any further with them. Or he already would have.

This was my first thought when I heard the story. I'd be seriously shocked if he's ahead in his gambling over the past 6 months, $90K Superbowl considered.
