Well, Kansas fans need something to cry in after yesterday.

It's not just beer, it's Boulevard.

Breckenridge chocolate porter is a gift from the gods themselves.

It's really not that great.
The first glass is good.
But by the 5th glass I was sick of it.

2012-02-05 08:36:02 PM
Sounds like a waste of perfectly good chocolate.

Chocolate Beer

As someone who grew up in KCMO, I have a lot of respect for both Boulevard and Christopher Elbow. The Chocolate Ale is a fun beer to try out. Not something you'd want all the time, but nothing bad about it either. It is a great flavored brew with some uniquely KC groups coming together.

Way to get to the story a week late.

It's our little way of atoning for the sin of A-B.

Chocolate and "chocolate" (like dark/heavy roast) are pretty good. Don't know anyone who shares my tastes though. Shrug.

2012-02-05 09:03:58 PM
Having tried some of this (new window) from the tap first time last weekend I can understand why people would get this upset over chocolate beer.

/Good stuff, but could've been a bit darker for my taste.

Drinking Sexual Chocolate right nite, getting a kick out of these replies.

/NC beer ftw

Had a couple pints Wednesday night after several calls to find it on tap. Boulevard's Chocolate Ale lives up to the hype.

The grocery store across the street from my office sold out in 15 minutes. I got there in 20.

But I got a bottle of the Bourbon Barrel Quad so I'm going to say I did okay this year.

2012-02-05 09:58:20 PM
sorry but this beer is massively over rated, sure it's good but it is not nearly as good as what everyone makes it out to be.

I own a few bottles and I picked up a few more this year but it pales in comparison to Great Divides Chocolate Stout

/beer snob
//has way to much in the cellar

no no it doesn't. Their Bourbon Barrel Quad does and so does their Dark Truth Stout or Harvest Dance.

Chocolate ale has torn KC apart so much that the city is in TWO different states!

2012-02-05 10:20:57 PM
Excited about chocolate beer? Midwesterners are so charmingly behind-the-curve.

2012-02-05 10:29:29 PM
I can understand getting excited about beer, but there is no way in hell that I'd pay $100 for a single bottle of ANY beer.

I actually brewed a chocolate stout last year, and it was something like $50 for five gallons of the stuff.

Meh, it was okay, but didn't live up to the hype. Still love me some Double Wide IPA.

Win or lose, one team still has to live in Lawrence and go to KU... which is more torment and punishment than any soul should ever have to bear.

/good thing KU students don't have souls.

It was good. But not that good.

2012-02-05 10:49:26 PM
When I was in KC, I had Blvd wheat whenever I had beer. The local fresh stuff was awesome. Tried the bottled a few times and it just wasn't the same.

2012-02-05 11:00:10 PM
Just don't drink it out of a wine glass. That's a stabbin'.

2012-02-05 11:02:36 PM
It's beer for ladies who don't like beer. It's not that great.

Their Tank Seven Farmhouse stuff is really good, but even still doesn't really justify the cost.

Why people get all crazy about the chocolate stout is beyond me. It's not even the best chocolate stout out there.

All that said, Boulevard does make some great beer.

It's ok, but by far my least favorite of their Smokestack series. Saw at least 30 bottles of it at the liquor store by my house last night and know of another store that has at least 4 cases so if there are any Twin Cities looking for it I can point you in the right direction.

Dude would get stone cold jacked. That 'tough' east/west coast vibe thing don't fly in these parts, where the men don't 'act' tough, they ARE tough. Might have something to do with all the corn feed farmer types, could have something to do with the "Jessie James" effect (the REAL James that rode with Cole Younger, not that pansy who is in the news today), either way smart 'coast' people don't fark with us. Then again, Leary never really was to 'smart' so....

This is why we can't have nice things. Bet you also like their Boss Tom's, Amber Ale and Lunar wheat...

If they would just ship me cases of Bully Porter, Single Wide IPA, Tank 7, and Dark Truth, life would be perfect.

Boulevard's Double-wide IPA is probably my favorite.

Screw chocolate ale. Just the idea of it makes my tastebuds shrivel up in disgust.
