Muslim clerics in Canada issued a fatwa on Saturday against honour killings, domestic violence and hatred of women.

I'm sure the worldwide adherents of this peaceful religion will take this very seriously indeed. I'll be surprised if anyone other than an extremist not-really-a-Muslim Muslim does anything like this, ever again. Honestly.

To be fair, there have been similar fatwa issued about the practice of takfir--which is the practice of declaring another Muslim as an Unbeliever. It's the practice that a lot of Fundamentalists use to justify killing other Muslims, especially since it's often used by non-clergy so that they can intimidate or frighten folks to complying with a majority. Not just Salman Rushdie, but Shias by the hundreds, or just shopkeepers who thought that they might sell to Shias.

That one had support across the Middle East, Europe, Canuckistan, and the US.

It also never got a lot of press, despite the fact it denounced many Fundamentalists and their bloodshed.

Islam itself isn't an enemy, any more than Christianity is an enemy, or Judaism. There are indeed asshats who we need to deal with, and in dealing with, we need to end the practices that get good people killed. Be that here in the US, be that in Israel, be that in Afghanistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, or in Africa. We need to address specifics, not just a faith in general.

One thing that fatwa at least do, is identify WHO is in support of exactly what.

Very quickly you run into the argument that acts of evils have not been perpetrated by either Christians or Muslims because neither were true Christians or Muslims if they perpetrated the evils (e.g., Hitler versus Osama). Both technically Christian and Muslim and arguably denounced by their respective faiths.

Well, I did say "overtly religious emigrating from an overtly religious country", so the atheists and agnostics and the 12 cool religious people here would be able to leave.
People that leave their country because of it sucks and then continue the culture that made it suck don't really gain much, anyway. You see that a lot with Muslims in Europe and Mexicans in America, their "Chinatowns" are more like "Chinacounties". And it slowly expands until entire parts should be avoided by the natives.
