no more ass-pulling than "tax cuts create jobs" "handing out condoms causes pregnancies and STD's" and "gay marriage will damage the institution of the american family" or any of the other nonsense handed down by conservatives over the last 30 years or so.

But actually, I suppose it could be the case. Look at Morgellons and how it was "spread" by Internet forums.

During an angry meeting on Saturday parents berated LeRoy schools officials and asked why the soil around natural gas well which had been dug on school ground had not been tested for contamination.

I'm sure digging a natural gas well on school grounds isn't really worth looking into very deeply. They did a round of tests so it's probably just psychosomatic. As we all know, fracking is a particularly safe and side effect free form of gas extraction.

Also, why the frack are we drilling gas wells on school grounds?

Photo Caption: "Trying to understand: Thera Sanchez, 17, has had the mysterious symptoms for months and all of the treatments he has received have not helped to clarify any options for her or her family."

Just what a 17-year-old needs: that photo posted all over the Interwebs and gender confusion.

I believe this issue was covered on a very special episode of "Saved By the Bell."

I'm consciously mimicking 1980s David Letterman. And I think we all know how painful that can be.

So, (purely hypothetically of course,) if a person randomly blurts out awkward come-ons directed at women that he hasn't even talked to in years without even thinking about it, would that be considered Tourette's? Or just borderline psychosis?

I'm fairly certain that is called tequila.

I live next town over and that this stupid story has gone world wide annoys the hell out of me.

I think it's obvious some form of mass psychosis. It's not symptoms of chemical spill that happened 30 years ago three miles away that never had an effect on anyone else until today. These stupid hicks are insulted if you give them a psychiatric explanation, like they can't grasp mental illness is a real thing and it's not the same thing as saying they're faking it.

And I lost all respect I ever had for Erin Brockovich. Turns out she did something good once and has apparently spent the past few decades making a living as a professional attention whore.

This is ca-ray-zee!

I myself admit that my first reaction was one of "Gotta be a chemical/physical cause."

Now, it's more of "Jeez, unconsciously trying to attention whore cause you couldn't stand everyone giving attention to that plain Jane who sat behind you in English?"

Sad thing is that they DON'T realize they're doing it.

Not so cool story, bro: In the late 80s, I was fortunate to have near-front row seats at an INXS concert. Of course when the show started, we all bum rushed the front of the stage. Michael Hutchence OOZED charisma. Its like that song "Cult of Personality"..... Some people got it, most don't. Afterward, I actually blurted out: "Man, I'm not gay but I'd fark Michael Hutchence." AWKWARD SILENCE followed by WTFs?! For weeks.

/Not gay. NTTAWWI.

This isn't actually news. The entire town is full of weirdos. I haven't met anyone from Leroy who wasn't at least a little crazy or, more likely, absolutely batshiat nuts. Glad I'm not the only one noticing it. Too bad it's taken 20+ years for it to get media attention.

I do find it odd that only teenage girls are having the symptoms. If it was environmental, wouldn't other demographics also be affected?

Pavillion, Stafford or Caledonia? I used to live in LeRoy 10 years ago. Nice people, pretty town. Never heard of this. Used to go there weekly until this winter, nobody mentioned it. Even met some girls from the school. Pretty good group of kids. I also have a few MICA patient friends from Batavia and LeRoy. Random outbursts and ticks from kids stressed out in high school you say?

Okay folks, let's look to history for this. Every 50-80 years, a small group of young girls go batshiat crazy. Back in the day, we blamed it on satan and witches, and killed people. PEOPLE DIED BECAUSE OF STUPID ANTICS LIKE THIS. And, look at that, it is in the northeast - AGAIN.

Young girls (and a 36 year old school nurse) love attention and love acting like idiots. This is mass hysteria. I saw these girls on headline news, and it was the biggest dog and pony show I've ever seen. I know people with OCD and ticks. Those biatches were just acting crazy and stupid.

CSB: Last night, as I was asleep/half awake, I had a notion to clear the way in front of me. My arms, which were over my chest like a mummy, just shoved forward. Very weird. WHERE IS ERIN BROKOVITCH!

2012-02-06 01:30:23 PM
There's a lot more historical precedent for teenage girl hysteria and small-group mimicking of behavior for attention/money-grubbing than there is scientific evidence for a mystery ailment that produces inconsistent symptoms with no rational explanation for agent, cause or effect.

2012-02-06 01:32:30 PM
Remember the former cheer-leader who had a mystery ailment supposedly caused by getting a flu-shot that made her only able to walk backwards? Yeah, total lie, busted on camera, doing it for attention/money. Somehow the media was ALL OVER it for weeks though.

Just wait, this will go the same way.
