If school kids can be trusted to make the right choice every time why is it illegal for adults to have sex with them?

If school kids can be trusted to make the right choice every time why is the drinking age 21?

Kids don't make the right choices every time. They don't generally even make the right choices MOST of the time.
Your stupid argument is stupid.

Junk food is cheaper, thus cutting down on per capita costs and saving the taxpayers money

i never knew her, but apparently my maternal grandmother actually called black women "negresses" and thought that doing so was a sign of respect. she went to college at Oberlin during the depression, though, so she obviously had a different perception of the world than most.

There's a friggin' obesity epidemic in this country. If, for the sake of public health, we have to get rid of our kids eating fake processed unhealthy foods, so be it.

I don't know where you live, but they still teach sex ed in the schools where I live. They start it in 6th grade health class and the kids have it for one trimester per year through 8th grade.

I spoke to the health teacher at my son's school and she said 6th grade is where they learn the basics of how is babby formed. 7th grade goes more into birth control and sexually transmitted diseases. 8th grade focuses on "here is what happens if you fark up and get yourself or someone else pregnant".

That's the effects of eating all the unhelathy food to keep the kids from having it. She sacrificed her looks and health to save the poor kids.

/no, really, been to four schools and the lunch ladies at each of them would sell all the allotted refined sugar to various farmers markets if there was too much for their own families to eat

You can't expect her to claim that eating fatty bacon with a side of oranges is going to help kids lose weight. It's too radical a move. Baby steps mang.

It should absolutely not be the kid's choice because they're not adults.

It should absolutely NOT be the government's choice because that is far outside of the role of proper government.

Ask the parents. For good or ill, the adult taxpayers of the area are the ultimate authority in this.

At my school you could order any of the following anytime of day:

French fries with nacho cheese.
French fries with gravy.
French fries with marinara.

An you could wash it all down with liquid candy.

Out of 935 students I believe one may have been overweight.

Computers and inactivity are what makes teens fat

When kids are in the High School and still 14-18 one could probably eat lard, tree bark and drink yohoo every day and still come out decent for most of the population.

High School food by design is cheap crap. It needs fat to make it palletable.

I would suggest that forcing children to make them eat cheap food designed to be 'healthy' will scar them for life.

French fries and pizza for teenagers did not cause fatties for 75% of the population in the past, so why now. Look for the root cause, not the unrelated crap.

/If it is the BMI chart, video games, corn sugar or WIFI signals, fix the actual problem, not minor details.

When I graduated high school I was 6 feet tall and 120 pounds, and that was before Michelle Robinson even met that guy. This proves there was no problem with school nutrition at that time.

2012-02-05 07:10:26 PM
When I was in school, we had a choice. Buy the school lunch or not. The daily menu was published the Thursday of the preceding week and you (or your parents) could make the choice which days you were going to eat the school lunch and which days you were going to take your own. There was only the one menu item. Of course, in those days, parents were expected to take responsibility to feed their children and were assumed to have the intelligence to do so. My, how times have changed.

2012-02-05 07:10:57 PM
Deep frying isn't inherently unhealthy. If you do it wrong the food gets greasy and that's bad, by if you fry something properly the steam pressure keeps the oil out of the food and the food stays light and dry.

"Healthy" oven fries, tossed with a bunch of olive oil before putting them on a pan and in the oven have way more fat than properly deep fried fries because it just sits on them and soaks in.

2012-02-05 07:11:39 PM
Could have just switched to a healthier oil and sweet potatoes. Kids could still have fries and be eating healthier.

But, considering the number of kids who do not get nutritional meals at home I am OK with this.

At my high school, every lunch included 1) fries, 2) rolls, and 3) ranch dressing. Yet somehow, none of us were fat. I'm sure its just a coincidence that we spent 4 hours a day riding bikes, skating, swimming, or generally just being outdoors and active.

To build trust, you need evidence they are capable of making the choice to eat healthy food, and junk food in moderation.

This woman is yet to see evidence they will.

Therefore, she doesn't trust them and her actions are justified.

Nope. I attended a private college prep where we had a strange thing called freedom. The cafeteria was open from 7-5 and run by an Italian catering company. Student schedules were randomly scheduled to mirror the reality of college life. If, when, and what you ate was up to you. Also, this was life before lardos sitting behind computers 24/7/365

I know this is oversimplifying it, but school food has always been low quality. I have trouble believing school lunches are what makes teens fat, since school lunches have always sucked. Also, many high schools let the kids go off campus to eat, and always have. When I was in high school probably 20% of the students ate school lunch. I probably ate a school meal once a week in high school. What's that gonna do, add 200 calories over a more "healthy" alternative?

Get the little fatties playing outside and doing other physical activities again. Don't cut funding for phy-ed and sports programs. I know America loves complaining about a school's low performance and punishing them by cutting funding (great idea, that'll help), but those are among the first programs that go in many districts unless they are money makers like football.

Someone who actually works in education care to correct me? I'm probably ignorant about this issue and I'd love to learn more. This is just what I can see from my experience as a citizen and from volunteering for schools over the years.

Calories don't cause fatness. The devil causes fatness. Try my prayer diet -- eat anything you want, and as soon as your check clears, the pounds will fall off. Anyone who tells you to limit calories is a satanic socialist with no checks to send me.

Untested virtue is no virtue at all.

The schools will just lose funding because the students will go off campus.

Besides, Industry vs Inferiority has already been instilled by 13. So by high school the kids are just carrying out their ideals.

And the belief that "I ate like this when I was 15 so eating like this when I'm 40 and have the metabolism of a 40 year-old person so I'll be as thin as I was when I was 15". In other words establishing decent dietary habits when young is always a good idea.

Same with most other habitual shiat. Like how many people take up smoking when they're actually adults?

Hell as much as I like junk-food I'll argue you can't even trust adults to make good decisions. Look at home many morons overinvested in soft markets or real estate. People of all ages tend to make really dumb farking choices.
