Lot of mixed feelings about this. If you want to get circumcised I say go for it, but after all the completely correct biatching about female genital mutilation in Africa and among Muslims, I think an organized quasi governmental campaign to promote mass circumcisions is asinine.

Personally, I want my foreskin back. No one ever asked me if I'd like to be born with a side of genital mutilation. All of the reasons for foreskin removal are outdated.

I've heard from people that went on mission trips to Africa that they taught people there how to use condoms by demonstrating on broom handles, and that there are broom handles with rubbers on them leaning against many huts...

There are an awful lot of circumcised men without sexual problems.

There are several different procedures that are referred to as "female circumcision." One is just as harmless as male circumcision. The others are more analogous to having your penis cut off all the way back to the taint.

While there has been reasonable controversy about whether circumcision reduces the chance that the man with the circumcision will contract a number of diseases, it DOES reduce the chances of his partners contracting those diseases. No arguments in those stats.

Education and promotion of condom use would certainly help slow the spread of HIV for planned consensual sex, but when talking about the African AIDS epidemic, there's still the ugly problem of rampant rape.
