It's very much going to be a question of how much people hate Obama come November. The GOP is hoping that enough people don't like the near guy.

Will Romney score back-to-back victories?

He'll win by 20 points. This one isn't even worth watching for the Republican infighting, though Freeptown should be a hoot later on as they attempt to cobble together why Newt lost using the 11 brain cells shared among their members.

Hint: it'll undoubtedly have something to do with the liberal MSM mainstream media.

Today's roundup

Las Vegas caucus rules: registered Republicans can participate. The vote is binding and proportional with a 3.57% threshold for delegate allocation. (Source: Green Papers.) A first set of results on early caucuses will come in at 5 PM PST, but a major Clark County caucus begins at 7 PM PST, so the main results will be this evening.

Recent news:
- 538's detailed forecast anticipates Romney will win with 51% of the vote, so probably picking up 14-15 of the proportionally-awarded delegates. Why so popular? Well, he's the frontrunner and Nevada is full of Mormons and clearly nobody in the state cares about charisma because they keep electing Harry Reid.

Gallup's daily tracking poll (Mitt = grey, Newt = orange, Santorum = dark green, RON PAUL = light green)
analysis and source here
race42012.com

- Newt's campaign appears to be completely unravelling: he's badly organized in the next three states and he is barely holding last-minute events, which are not being promoted.
- Another story about Newt's campaign's incompetence places the blame on the scheduler and lack of personnel; apparently they don't even have a single paid staffer in Nevada, and Newt's scheduler is uncoordinated and won't even commit the candidate to events. It makes you wonder if he just can't attract capable people, particularly after basically his entire staff resigned last June. Then again, last June many of the resigning staffers pointed to Callista as a source of scheduling problems...
- In some good news for Newt, he has picked up two superdelegates in the past two days, one in MN, one from PR.

- In better news for Mitt, he has big lists of endorsements in both Colorado and Minnesota.

Santorum's campaign failed to get him on the Indiana ballot, which is a huge blow considering it's a conservative-leaning and highly Catholic state.

Schedule and the week ahead:
From Politico -
Santorum - events in Montrose, Loveland, and Greeley, Colorado
Romney - rally in Colorado Springs, then victory party in Las Vegas
Ron Paul - town halls and rallies in Rochester, Chanhassen and Bethel University, Minnesota.
Gingrich - no listed events

Tuesday's Colorado, Minnesota caucuses and Missouri's primary are the last before Feb. 28th. None of them are binding; they will select delegates for the next level of delegate allocation processes in each state.

Right wing America is headed for some serious world history making fail.

1) community identity is the highest value of the right winger. Anything and everything is not only permissible, but necessary in sacrifice to community identity. they say they love capitalism, they say they love Jesus, they say they love America. and some of them do. but the herd mentality is what really drives them. and it will trump any other value, on pain of ostracism.

2) the Truth is not valued. they call lies the Truth and they call Truth a lie. this is a seed of evil.

3) they use actual Nazi techniques in their rhetoric. Nazis, dude.

If that's the edge, I'd hate to see the exposed core. But yeah, anyone who's been paying attention sees that all the worst characteristics of the the most horrible regimes in world history are present in today's republican party.

Lots of Mormons involved in the Casino industry. I-15 between Vegas and Salt Lake is sometimes referred to as The Mormon Highway, and Vegas itself began a Mormon fort.

Jon Ralston (Vegas pundit) mentioned that Mormons comprise 7% of the population of Nevada, but they come out in droves to vote.

Mormons owned all the local banks that lent casino startups money back in the day. That's back when having anything to do with gambling was strictly forbidden in the Church.

It's about strategy, not enthusiasm. Republicans are going to nominate Romney because, of their available choices, they view him as least likely to lose to Obama.

I'm so pissed, first Romney sully's the name of the best pizza joint in town by holding a rally there where similar plastic folks upheld how awesome ken hair is.

Then Ron Paul hits up the shooting range

But then Newty, farking Newty, hit's up a local church and invites everyone under 12 up on stage with him and talks about how he's running for them. To get us back to being a nation under god's rules, like we were founded... He actually said that shiat and I almost threw something at my TV... motherfarker

Think about it this way - if someone can't gamble, drink or be promiscuous according to a pretty tight religion, they're a hell of a lot less likely to become financially compromised or blackmailed, making them a lot better suited for positions where you need someone who is hard to corrupt/coerce. Or at least that was the reason in the past why Mormons were so sought after in the casino business. Dunno if that still applies in modern times, however.

So how does that fit in with Romney's reflexive flip-floppery?

You can't coerce someone who has no dedication to anything.

This would be bad news . . . for Obama (if Santorum had a chance of winning the nomination and if a one-point lead in a poll this early in the campaign meant a whole lot).

That would be RON PAUL. Unfortunately, Paul's policies would lead to WWIII, as opposed to a skirmish largely contained within the Middle East.
