Is it documentary day at the Fark video links tab?
That 35 minute film on typesetting a couple of links down was riveting.

The riveting documentary isn't until tomorrow. After that, it'll be the concrete mixing documentary.

It's an interesting system the catfish have evolved...however, if it were too effective, there would soon be too few ceilidhs to maintain their population. Perhaps that dynamic creates waves of growing and shrinking populations between both species.

It's pretty much guaranteed. It's called nature.

Correct! It would be ineffective for them to keep doing this, either the ceilidhs (sp?) will have to evolve or both species will die off. My guess is that nature will come up with a defense for this.

I understand it will be paired with the short; "Pop Rivets throughout History".

Well, most of the Ceilidhs I've attended were very effective at extending the population. Auto-complete strikes again?

You can't even begin to understand pop rivets without a comprehensive understanding of blues rivets. And the concrete mixing film isn't a documentary - it's an unspoken-word visual mirage through which the spirit of concrete mixing is made accessible to those unfortunates who will never mix it themselves.

I loved the sound effects they felt were necessary to dub onto the film. But then, I am borderline retarded.

Evolution sure works fast. First it taught the cichlids how to stow young in their mouth just in time to avoid devastating predation. Then, just after that, it taught the catfish the egg-switch trick to take advantage of the cichlid's child-rearing behavior. I'm always astounded at how millions of years of evolution make immediate necessities appear within what must be one generation, when certain specific survival skills become critical to perpetuate reproduction, while at the same time dropping all other survival strategies that worked for untold millenia.

Yes. I tried to watch a National Geographic documentary on Netflix a while back and turned it off after about 15 minutes because they treat the audience like they're stupid.

I don't think the Buddha ever claimed that...

"The catfish drops a few eggs knowing full well that the cichlid will pick them up..."

Really? The nature documentary makers hold a common misconception about evolution itself? Is the whole fekking world going full retard? Back to school, kids. You're doing it wrong. Adaptive radiation = random. Successful attributes =/= conscious effort. Isn't this taught in middle school?

Anthropomorphisation is a perfectly acceptable story telling method and most of us watching are sophisticated enough to know perfectly well the fish is not going through any sort of thought process. And those that aren't. . .aren't really gonna care. But thanks.
