Our wardens receive abuse and threats pretty much on a day-to-day basis...
Maybe that should motivate you to review the value of your program? Yes, your poorly designed city has insufficient parking and the citizenry are squatters and parking hogs, but if you have to resort to clandestine surveillan...Oh, f*ck it...it's not even worth completing the sarcastic tho...f*ck it.

By identifying the spy car operator how does that prove you were not parked illegal again?

The citizens of Wellington had no right to know who the "dash camera car" operators were, she said.

Well the constitution gives you the right to face your accuser. Court proceedings are a matter of public record. Ergo, she's innocent.

It's really the only sensible thing to do, if its done safely. Therapeutically there's no danger involved.

uhmm....I see no problem with this. The driver simply photographed someone doing something illegal.. he has no reason to give up his privacy just because he is reporting someone doing something illegal. The driver is not anonymous to the courts, if the defendant has any kind of case against the spy car driver then they can make it and in turn, reveal their identity if the court proceeds with it.

If the accuser is a known liar, it calls his testimony into question. Has he been properly trained in setting the clocks in the car? Does he regularly skip proper maintenance? Could he have in fact recorded events five minutes
before
regulations come into effect instead of five minutes after?

This is what a police state looks like, people. Wake the fark up, you limey bastards while you still have some rights left.
The government does not give the people rights. The people grant the government specific powers, and forbid it other powers. We had a war over this. You lost. Get with the program.

The accused claims she was intimidated by the "spy car" driver so she pulled over, presumably by pulling into a yellow lined area, where she was photographed "parking" illegally.
Nonetheless, the point of the article is that the newspaper was, ultimately, not given permission to photograph all witnesses to the infraction. This is more a case of suppression of "freedom of the press".
/don't know if such a right exists in New Zealand, however, the Press Freedom Index ranks New Zealand's press as the 13th most free, while the United States of America press ranks 47th.

Thats because those rankings are bullshiat. Notice how with such ease the newspaper complies with the courts request. While newspapers in the U.S. have a long history of pushing the envelope when it comes to violating court orders, especially when freedom of expression issues come into play. So courts amd government agencies try to quell these journalists.
On a purely quantative scale, maybe. But it's utterly meaningless when you try to qualify these rights.
In countries where the right doesnt exist it's up to whatever the government says. In countries where its codified and follow common law doctrine, it's up to citizens to challenge and assert their rights:
by breaking the law

At least here in the US one has the RIGHT to confront their accusor!
The Confrontation Clause of the Sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that "in all criminal prosecutions,
the accused shall enjoy the right...to be confronted with the witnesses against him
." Generally, the right is to have a face-to-face confrontation with witnesses who are offering testimonial evidence against the accused in the form of cross-examination during a trial. The Fourteenth Amendment makes the right to confrontation applicable to the states and not just the federal government.
The Confrontation Clause has its roots in both
English common law
, protecting the right of cross-examination, and Roman law, which guaranteed persons accused of a crime the right to look their accusers in the eye.
Apparently that right does not exist in NZ

I think I should point out that the person being charged did actually have a chance to confront her accuser, the press was simply prevented from publishing that persons name or picture, so, you can still rage I guess, but at least rage at what actually happened. This is about the peoples right to know who is watching them not about having the right to face your accuser.
