If Ron Paul were just a cynical, greedy, unprincipled old man, he would convince a lot of idealistic and foolish young people that he was an ideological purist interested in true freedom and liberty. He'd collect a ton of campaign donations from these people, giving them false hope that he might actually win, then take his money at the end and use it to employ relatives and friends as political advisors or whatever. Then again, maybe he really does believe he has a chance to win.

Paultards are dead-end delusional zealots with a staggeringly poor grasp of finance, economics and American History. They are true fundamentalists in every sense of the word. A cult of personality who will not see other opinions, even when presented with blinding evidence that they are wrong. They don't even necessarily want to argue, they want to preach and if you dare say something in contrast, they get upset, not only about you saying something in contrast, but saying ANYTHING AT ALL. I hope Ron Paul continues to fail. The consequences of him actually getting elected and having his "policies" enacted would end the nation, and cause a global meltdown not seen since the collapse of the Minoans

:) I like it, cause I know so little about the Minoans, and they existed so long ago, that I imagine it being epic, like Atlantis sinking beneath the ocean or something.

he doesn't believe in his ideas, dude. he saw a plot of ground that wasn't staked out yet, and realized that just enough people would believe in it that he could get rich off of their idealism.

I could see it.

The Republican establishment realizes that' None of the Above' is going to beat Obama, so throw the fringe a bone. Nominate RON PAUL for Republican President and Orly Tatiz or some other unelectable nutjob for VP. Get the committed, and committable, to the polls, pulling an R lever. Solidity the hold on the House and probably take the Senate. Continue ruling the country with your co-conspirator Obama while blaming him for all the ugly fallout.

Douchebag: Santorum has no chance either, but I don't see CNN harping on him to drop out. In fact, Paul will probably play better in Libertarian-oriented Nevada than Santorum will. The religious conservatives in NV are usually Mormon and they'll probably vote for Romney if they are registered Republicans.

This has to be his plan. I think he wants to take enough delegates to keep Romney or Gingrich from getting enough for the nomination. Then maybe he'll cut some backroom deal for a VP nom in exchange for his support. Then again, it's Ron Paul so who knows?

Nah. Honestly, I think he's just pushing to get his brand of libertarianism into the party mainstream by being loud and persistent. He couldn't possibly have ever thought he was going to win any of his runs for president, but this year he's certainly upped his market share.

And I don't agree with RON PAUL! either, but I'd much rather have someone like him in charge of one of the two major parties than the current breed of rabid macaque they've got running the show over there.

That's because Santorum is a farking joke that is only there to appeal to the pants-shiatting retards that are still stockpiling weapons and ammo and cowering in their bunkers waiting for the Kenyan usurper to put them in the fema camps. The press doesn't need to waste their time on him.

Meanwhile, the RONPAULtards are slightly less delusional and more numerous and can at least read. They can sill sell a few more papers/generate page clicks off these rubes, so they are still worth milking until their hero shuffles back to Texas where he belongs.

Though the Austrian school has been pretty well discredited, I do think Paul at least opens up the conversations about the massive growth of the federal government that makes the rest of the Republican party uncomfortable.

He's just reminding the kleptocrats of what used to be called 'The Rockefeller Wing' that the Libertarian Wing of the party is as strong and vibrant as ever.

It's an important and useful role.

Ron Paul, you know, is not really the Devil incarnate. He's really a pretty standard-issue politician. He represents a medium sized district in Southeast Texas whose major urban center is Galveston. He represents it competently, going to Washington and bringing home the pork like any other good congresscritter. He votes the party line or the pragmatic line most of the time, and when there are no consequences, engages in his "libertarian" shtick.
But all it is is shtick - he just plays one on TV.
He's exactly what you would expect a man in his position to be. He is not the insane, evil racist some would portray him as - but neither is he the firebrand of liberty his benighted acolytes imagine him to be. He's a rank and file politician, a Washington insider, and an astute fundraiser and media manipulator who will take his votes where he can get them. And nothing else.
Deal with it.

In other news, Gingrich will be holding a press conference instead of doing a concession speech after he loses today. I hope he doesn't drop out. Fat man brings the funny.

Paul would never get most of his ideas through congress. Good. He would perform a useful function though:

HE WOULD VETO STUFF

2012-02-04 01:18:48 PM
I do think Paul's economic and social platform is KILLITWITHFIRE bad, but on the other hand his foreign policy is pretty nice. America does need to switch to non-interventionist mode for at least long enough to get its fiscal house in order. And, to be quite frank I think that of all the Republican contenders, a Paul presidency would be the least economically, socially and strategically destructive (and that's saying something).

At the very least, he's the most amusing presidential prospect. He's kind of like the racist great uncle you only see at the holidays, because while the family doesn't go out of their way to see him, he's still old, doesn't have anybody, and family so everyone's obligated to get him out of the home just for the holidays. And, he doesn't really hate anybody per se (except the gooks), he just grew up in a different time and doesn't get how awkward and hateful he comes off as. So, when you come home for Thanksgiving from your first year at undergrad with your new Asian girlfriend, you're half-sick from anxiety and dread she'll run away screaming and file for a restraining order...but on the other hand that lizard part of your brain quivers with barely-restrained glee for when your uncle takes one look at her and tells her to her face how much she looks like the hooker at Madam Ding-Dong's Joy-Joy Love House that would let him fark her in the ass for a dollar and a pack of Lucky Strikes, but then again they all look the same so what's it matter anyway.

No, really he's GOOD!

"I will veto any spending bill that contains funding for Planned Parenthood, facilities that perform abortion and all government family planning schemes."
~Ron Paul, declaring that he will end crucial medical care and medical services for women such as cancer screenings.

"It would help the poor people who need jobs. Minimum wage is a mandate. We're against mandates so why should we have it? It would be very beneficial."
~Ron Paul, saying that abolishing the minimum wage would help poor people.

"A state can decide. We don't need somebody in Washington. I live on the gulf coast, we deal with hurricanes all the time. The local people rebuild the city. Built a sea wall and they survived without FEMA. We should be like 1900, we should be like 1940 1950 1960."
~Ron Paul, calling for the end of FEMA just as Hurricane Irene was slamming the east coast, costing many lives and a lot of damage.

And these are just some of his recent gems.

I think a lot of Ron Paul's appeal comes from the fact he claims to be the one who can solve everything and he'll never win, so a Paulinista can smugly say that they're not at fault for the current mess because they voted for Ron Paul.

2012-02-04 01:42:49 PM
He is in favor of legalizing pot and prostitution.

Problem is, in a Ron Paul America, only the rich can afford to have any hookers and pot. Everyone else is dirt poor and starving, fighting over scraps of food in a totalitarian wasteland of 50 separate Balklanized corporate fiefdoms, some of which have even brought back slavery and witch-burning.
