Not my party. I voted for one republican once, and a few democrats on year to protest the local republicans. Other than that I have always voted either libertarian or green or a NOTA write in.

The republicans were the original abolitionist party and supporter of civil rights. It too Johnson making an alliance with MLK and other A.A. civil rights activists to take that away.

So far as drug laws, go, you can really blame both parties for that, after all, finding a powerless easily disparaged minority of 'sinners' to be make into a threat that the politician can save the people from is a ploy as old as history. Though IIRC, it was under Truman that the first national anti-marijuana laws were passed, though there were a lot of local and state laws in force already. But I am too lazy to go check.
