"A Republican....."

2012-02-04 09:16:20 AM
The guy was just corrupt. He hired his girlfriend, he bought big screen TVs, and he stayed for four nights in a hotel that was 24 miles away from his house all with tax dollars. It was just this particular attempt at corruption was slightly more stupid than the others.

cretinbob: "A Republican....."

Yup.

I was going to make a smartass comment about him getting off his lazy ass and finding a job, but after reading the article, who would hire the douchebag?

FTA: Commissioner James Comer said: "Without commenting on any specific unemployment claim, I will say that I do not believe in general that elected officials can or should receive unemployment benefits. I am mindful that the unemployment fund is depleted and there are Kentuckians who are out of work and hurting and far more deserving of these benefits than politicians."

Guess who would need to write the legislation to make sure politicians can't get unemployment when their term is up. Now guess why that will never happen. Remember there were congresscritters booing the President for saying insider trading should be illegal for them (like it is for the rest of us for good reason).

I gotta be honest, it was probably a mistake. He might not have been told that he can't file for unemployment, and he is now technically unemployed.

He was an ag commissioner. Those guys tend to be the common clay of the earth. You know. Morons.

I can see how Christian Laettner was able to get past this mastermind.

Not to mention at least half of the TEA Party, who believe that "sticking it to The Man" shouldn't affect their unemployment benefits or Medicare.

Legend?

Farmer was named Mr. Basketball in the state of Kentucky in 1988. He played shooting guard for the University of Kentucky from 1988 to 1992, where he posted career averages of 7.6 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.

Snort!

give me doughnuts: Don't forget the epic porn-stache!

I was doing morning radio in Elizabethtown when he went into politics. I suggested one morning that he lose the 'stache, as it made him look kinda gay. Oh, the angry phone calls that generated. I truly wasn't trying to be shocking, I really was thinking in the gay-porn kind of way, that it simply was NOT a good look for him. "YOU CALLIN RICHIE GAY!?!?!? " Dudes were mad.

/rooted for him when he was at UK
//hated him when he was at Clay County
///went to PRP

Funny enough, 1988 was the year that the "pay to play" scandals started in Kentucky, leading to the entire program going on probation and the firing of all of the coaches and staff.

No, the Mills stuff broke earlier. The Legend of Richie exists because he was a slow, white kid from the mountains who stuck with UK despite the sanctions, and was part of the team that was a Laettner* jumper away from the Final Four as a senior.

*Who should have been ejected from the damn game for stomping Aminu Timberlake.

Did his employer pay into unemployment on his behalf while he was employed? YES, then he's entitled. NO, sorry charlie, go get yourself a job.

Nope. Still not buying it. David Thompson, Pete Maravich, Lew Alcindor, and Oscar Robertson are college basketball legends. I think you could even get away with putting Laetner in there, and I hated him as much as any UK fan. You could say that Farmer was maybe "well-known" or "beloved" and maybe even "famous".

But legendary? Is farking joke.

Richie got his start in high school, when he dropped 51 on Ballard in the state championship game. Richie's name is absolutely revered in parts of Eastern Kentucky.

Nothing to see here.

He never denied being a former elected official. If the benefits office was doing their job properly and efficiently they would deny his application. That is the whole point of an application. You apply someone else either applies or denies the application. It is a process.

Unless there is some evidence that he was was purposely committing fraud by submitting an application there is nothing to see here.

Even though the guy seems corrupt as hell, I don't see any problem with this. If he or his employer paid into the unemployment insurance, then he should be able to collect unemployment once his job ends. It shouldn't matter if he is a politician and his term ended or a temp factory worker who's job assignment ended. As long as the UI was payed into for them, then they are eligible.

2012-02-04 01:16:35 PM
$110,346 over 8 years = $13,793.25 per year.

Divide that by 2080 (40 hours * 52) hours per year, and that comes to $6.63 an hour.

Either he was really making minimum wage or close to it, or somebody's math is screwy.

I can accept "absolutely revered in parts of Eastern Kentucky".

"Legendary college basketball player", not so much.

I have a feeling his follow up excuse will be that he filed for unemployment to show how foolish it was and he's really a true bootstrappy conservican like his hero, Ronald Reagan.

I know this is only peripherally a college bball thread, but I just wanted to say that the clown on fire running down the street screaming in the new Axe commercial during the OSU-Wisky game is the funniest thing I've seen on the teebee in a while.

From the link: "Murphy is confirmed to have fathered 14 children by 9 different women". Sounds like a great shooter, I wonder if he would be a happier guy if he missed a few of those.
