Have you seen that vigilante man?
Have you seen that vigilante man?
Have you seen that vigilante man?
I been hearin' his name all over the land.

Well, what is a vigilante man?
Tell me, what is a vigilante man?
Has he got a gun and a club in his hand?
Is that is a vigilante man?

Rainy night down in the engine house,
Sleepin' just as still as a mouse,
Man come along an' he chased us out in the rain.
Was that a vigilante man?

Stormy days we passed the time away,
Sleepin' in some good warm place.
Man come along an' we give him a little race.
Was that a vigilante man?

Preacher Casey was just a workin' man,
And he said, "Unite all you working men."
Killed him in the river some strange man.
Was that a vigilante man?

Oh, why does a vigilante man,
Why does a vigilante man
Carry that sawed-off shot-gun in his hand?
Would he shoot his brother and sister down?

I rambled 'round from town to town,
I rambled 'round from town to town,
And they herded us around like a wild herd of cattle.
Was that the vigilante men?

Have you seen that vigilante man?
Have you seen that vigilante man?
I've heard his name all over this land.

ArcadianRefugee: Oooo! can't wait for the third time when the drunk driver pulls a gun and shoots him.

Why the hell would you assume he's unarmed? It's Texas.

And since he's only pursuing guys so blind drunk they're wildly caroming off of bicyclists and pedestrians at random, and drunks have lousy slow reflexes and worse coordination, what I would predict in that case is a literally dead drunk and no charges pressed because the drunk was a fleeing felon and in Texas that would be a legally righteous shot.

This guy's not a vigilante. Vigilante's pursue vengeance and carry out punishment themselves.

Citizens have the legitimate power to arrest--just woe betide them if they get it wrong.

flatspin: This happened in a busy area. Plenty of people to help the injured and catching this dumb ass will probably prevent him from killing someone else in the future. If I see him out I'll definitely buy him a drink.

He didn't assault the guy, just detained him until police arrived. Doesn't really sound like a vigilante but more like a responsible person who was in the right place at the right time and wasn't afraid to do the right thing (unlike many of the precious little snowflakes here on Fark I'm sorry to say).

Or maybe they would have - for all that they criticize his judgement in the cold light of day, I'd be willing to bet that a sizable fraction of those calling him a fool might have done the same thing in the heat of the moment - that's why they call impulsive behavior impulsive. Seeing a couple of people run down right in front of you is a shocking, traumatic experience, and anybody who says with confidence that they would have reacted calmly and rationally in his position is talking out their ass. There is NO way to know, ahead of time, what you are going to do under circumstances like that.

I usually think rednecks are unshameful, uncultured, townie jamokes. But it's true, they're the most likely to show some balls when a crisis hits and most people just stand around helpless.

AbbeySomeone: sendbillmoney: Perez seems to be something of a chest-beating AW ("daddy didn't bring up cowards") with daddy issues (dude, you're 47 and calling your paternal parent daddy?). He's also opening himself up to liability here in a big way. Forget letting the cops do the chasing, he does it himself. Forget doing what he could at the crash site (summon professional assistance, crowd control, prevent further injuries), there's no glory in that. Forget letting trained personnel with appropriate equipment (and insurance) extract the guy from his wrecked car, he just pulls the guy out bodily and hogties him with a belt.

He's going to keep pulling this sort of thing until it goes sour on him, and then he'll be shocked to be held accountable for the bad outcome.

Something tells me you haven't spent much time in Texas.

...or is pissed 'cause he might have to get his lardarse off the couch to get his Xbox to work, and/or his maternal parent won't bring him a beer.

Did something similar when this moron nearly ran me off the interstate back in 1988. I followed him off the exit ramp and watched him rear-end the guy stopped at the light, bounce off and roll back for a good 30 feet. The guy he hit just drove away, so I pulled off, approached him and saw how out of it he was. When I reached in to remove the keys from the ignition he got all alert. We had a little scuffle there on the road as he tried to wrestle the keys away. He was a big dude, could have easily kicked my ass if he wasn't so drunk.

I tried to tell him I'd give him a ride to a Mini Mart so he could call someone to come get him but he wouldn't have it. Then a lady with a cell phone (rare in those days) drove by and screamed she was calling the cops. When the cops got there he tried to tell them I car-jacked him. LOL - the cop looked down at his feet and said "You're standing on a red ant mound, boy." And he was, his legs were crawling with ants.

Poor farker, I felt bad for him. But at least he didn't kill anyone that day.

What can a person do in the middle of the road without medical equipment? Hold pressure to bleeding with a t-shirt and CPR are about it. And it said that he was talking to other people while waiting at the light so he didn't abandon the injured. I think chasing the guy was the best thing. A slap on the wrist may not be the best but it's better then just letting the guy go.

Or the Vauxhall Zafira VXR?

Actually, Vauxhall's claims notwithstanding, an R350 is quicker than the Zafira VXR, and an R500 is faster still. The R63 AMG is in an altogether different category.

That being said, in Austin Texas one is not very likely to encounter a Vauxhall.

That would most likely be a Suzuki, GSX-R 1100, or GSX-1100-S Katana. Those are both highly desirable should you want to run down a fleeing vehicle. Harley's work too, but you would need a partner and a radio to catch anything that wanted to get away.

I think you assume too much. There's no evidence that he was the only available help for those people. There could have been others. Rather than assume the worst in others, I choose to assume that he saw the injured folks had help and realized he was the only one on the scene able to do something about the driver.

Just because others seem to get away with similar offenses, there is no reason to assume this lawbreaker will do the same. The chance that he might not get a strong punishment does not mean he should not be apprehended.

Also, a scofflaw is someone who disregards the law, not someone who gets away with breaking the law.

The criticisms in this thread have only served to destroy my faith in internet commentators just a little bit mo--oh, wait. I haven't had any of that for a long time. Carry on, winners.

I have done something similar, but not quite as ballsy. I watched a guy in front of me ram another driver and cause him to wreck. He sped off and I chases him. Once he realized I portably had his plate number, he pulled over. I just reported it to the cops though, I didn't pull him out of his car and hogtie him

In case you're ever fleeing a motorcycle in a car you should know two things. One, the bike will be able to go much faster than your car. And two, the flying radius of a motorcycle is much less than a car.

Keep pushing those 35mpg miles and somewhere near 200 miles (if he started on a full tank) he'll run out of gas. Unless he's got a racing tank, then you're prob f'd.

We was in a bar, drinking (duh) and watching traffic, when this dude in a pickup truck rear ended a gremlin. We all went out, and the dude said "I'm blocking traffic, I'll just pull into that parking lot, and he proceeded into the parking lot and out the other side, and off, into the sunset.

But he had knocked his license plate off, and it was still in the road.
