I know he comes and goes, but yeah, it does seem like it has been quite a while. I'm not sure.

Just to be sure, are we talking about "log_jammin" or "LogJammin", because they're two different users?

The former is the one I have favorited and haven't seen a post from in awhile. I don't know the latter one at all.

Fun fact related to that scene:

Malibu does not have its own police department...law enforcement duties are contracted out to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

Yeah, but I always laugh at the scene where he brags about bringing Wal Mart to town. You brought Wal Mart to a small town in Missouri? Whoop de farking doo.

I'm pretty sure he was bragging about JC Penney. Between Road House and Rocky IV, those are the two greatest basic cable movies ever.

I remember during the 90s, every weekend before the Super Bowl, you were guaranteed to see those two movies and Bloodsport.

i loved that character because there was zero backstory. we didn't know why he was an asshole - he was just an asshole. and he played it with such zeal. brilliantly dumb.

Incidentally, if all you know Ben Gazzara from is Lebowski, check the films he made with John Cassavetes. Some really great movies there.

Back before one was every 10 miles it was a big deal to have someone hire a few hundred locals, its stupid now but its funny that role is how a shiat load of people will remember him.

He outlasted Swayze and Jeff Healy. Guess it's up to Sam Elliot to roundhouse kick the casket into the hole.

No, it really wasn't. Bentonville, AR is right across the Missouri border, so Missouri was Wal-Mart's earliest expansion target. Even in the early 80's, Wal-Marts were everywhere in Missouri. Getting them to come to town involved almost no effort at all.

As mentioned in this thread, check out the Cassavetes films.
I have a particular fondness for "The Killing of a Chinese Bookie" - which also starred Timothy Carey!

And that, sadly, is the only Brad Wesley quote on the IMDb page for Roadhouse.

I'm sure there were much better ones.

Mentat You brought Wal Mart to a small town in Missouri?

The freeway sign reading "Bakersfield" is unfortunate. Best Ben Gazzara Movie List needs to include "Anatomy Of A Murder": "never trust a gin drinker."
