He was really steamed about it

On the bright side, he no longer needs a flashlight

Worst. Origin. Story. Ever

You kidding? I love Flashlight ManTM.

Illuminating the halls of justice. Bringing light to where there was once darkness. Shining the cold hard beam of truth on to n'er-do-wells. Helping you get your keys into the lock when you have a bag full of groceries on a late evening, that sort of thing. He was one of my favourites as a kid. I particularly enjoyed those DC crossover episodes when he battled the Dark Night. I was happy to see that he finally got with the times and went LED, though. That was a good lesson for the kids.

I'm not surprised. I got to see inside the pool @ Seabrook NH. The water glows a brilliant blue. I suddenly knew what a bug zapper looked like to a fly. It was beautiful. I can see being hypnotized by the nuclear sirens and taking the plunge.

I don't know why the stereotype for radiation is green.

Did they do anything?

The worker at the San Diego County power plant did not suffer significant radiation exposure, the North County Times reported.

Yes, but how are his sperm?

san francisco is finally getting the battle that it's been training for for all of these years.

thomps: is that not the flash's origin story?

Barry Allen & Wally West were both doused w/chemicals that were hit by lightning. I was thinking more Daredevil's--blinded by toxic waste. Or even the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: given super powers from RUNOFF from toxic waste spilled on Daredevil.

I don't much about reactor design, but I'm not too comforted by the idea that anything can fall into the reactor pool - flashlights, people, or otherwise.

I'm liking all the recent headlines mentioning Connecticut. Makes me feel like I live in a real state

Not too sure how I ended up here. I think I hit the back button once too many times

I'm steadfastly opposed to a remake of Toxic Avenger.

In all seriousness though, he really better fight crime. Or rob a bank in a lightbulb themed outfit with some henchmen. But one of the two.

How about this: Worker tries to recover fleshlight, accidentally into a nuclear reactor pool. The whole thing!

In England, ti would be the Torch's origin.

Diogenes: I don't much about reactor design, but I'm not too comforted by the idea that anything can fall into the reactor pool - flashlights, people, or otherwise.

This is a very good point. It makes it sound as thought there are just open pools of nuclear chemicals with people and objects simply moving around above them.

Green can be either disease or healing. Most writers\moviemakers use disease as a shortcut.

/I gave my superhero blue radiation
//Technically very cold plasma, but still...
///...Actually, I'm not sure what the hell it is. Though that kind of sums up the science on it in-universe, too.

I didn't think people as dumb as Homer Simpson actually worked at nuclear power plants. I was wrong. And now I'm quite scared.

Comic book references aside, there's really nothing to see here. Safety procedures worked as intended and the worker is fine.

Id be more concerned about what residual effects any of the stuff that washed off of him will have on reactor plant chemistry...

This actually happened to a friend of mine's ex-husband, he fell into a vat of chemicals, and kinda disolved I guess. It happened in PA somewhere in 1996

Having been around the top of the nuclear reactor at UW Madison I can see how this could happen pretty easily.

I think it came from the use of radium for glow-in-the-dark watches... even though the green was technically from the phosphorus and not from the radium itself, people came to associate the green glow with radioactivity.

I assume it was possible because they had removed the reactor head (the lid) to replace it.
