I'm from Toledo and I still live near there so I'm getting a kick out of this. We're only at #8 though, we need to try harder!

shivashakti: Demetrius: I drive through Hartford most every day.

Give me the choice of living in Miami or Hartford, I'd take Miami any day.

Having lived in both CT and FL, I'll gladly take CT. Though not Hartford. Hartford sucks.

At least it's not New London, Bridgeport or Waterbury.

2012-02-03 07:02:46 PM
Who can complain about CT after having lived in a state like GA. 1 1/2 hours I can be anywhere in CT. 1 1/2 hours and im still stuck on 285 at the 75 ramp.

Oh and there is Friendlys - at least until they close the rest of the stores for bankruptcy

Lotta miserable towns in Florida according to TFA.

I can relate. I wasn't real miserable when i was in Florida but i sure was broke an awful lot. Never had that problem in Conn.

Stuckeys too. If you ever get a craving for pecans at 3 in the morning it's nice to know Stuckeys is there. They are still there aren't they ?

I've never been to Stockton but have always been curious about seeing it ever since seeing a screening of Fat City. Does it still have that flophouse and palooka feel to it?

The whole central valley does. It belongs in Nevada.

I like Miami. It's a beauty with warts.

A couple of years back I was at a public pay-beach ($5.00 to park I think) and went for a stroll. Largely hispanic families enjoying the day with their kids bobbing in the surf.

One kid of maybe 11 was joyously throwing a floating toy far out into the waves, then scampering to the waters edge in order to retrieve it and repeat the process.

It was a spent 4 foot flourescent tube.

Oh Nooooess.

There use to be one at every exit ramp off I-95 from North Carolina to Cuba

Did Will Smith write a song about Hartford?

As a native of Buffalo, I demand a recount.

Our sports team alone are enough to make a grown man weep. Then there's the economy...

Are you kidding? Hartford is not that bad. Camden? Detroit? Newark? Gary? Even Bridgeport, in CT, is worse than Hartford.

2012-02-03 07:27:49 PM
Walker: Sounds legit. There's no way a place like Detroit can be more miserable than Miami. All those topless chicks on the beach in thongs and year round nice temps. Man, it's so depressing down there.

Opa-Locka! Bars on the windows of ice cream trucks.

My home state has three entries on it, why am I not surprised?

And since Toledo is only about 30 minutes, that makes four for me. Cheers to life!

And yes, if it's good enough for Dexter or Sam Axe and the gang, then Miami is damned well good enough for me.

\it's such a fun place to vacation in!

A few years back I spotted a bumpersticker (made to look like the "Hartford, New England's rising Star" logo) that said
'Hartford, you could do worse."

I guess it was right...

2012-02-03 07:45:00 PM
I lived in Miami for 5 years, when I was in my 20's. I had a great time. I still visit friends from time to time.

Or Kokomo, Indiana. Or Anderson, Indiana. Or Terre Haute, Indiana. Or Gary, Indiana. Or South Bend, Indiana. Or Fort Wayne, Indiana.

There's a pattern here.

2012-02-03 07:53:15 PM
I had a job offer few years back and was pretty close to moving there before the company reneged on the offer. I remember a lot of sun and real estate was super cheap. I've been to 36 states, and pretty near every major city in the US and Miami is far from the bottom of my list.

Try: Cumberland, MD. Or Conyers, GA, or Westlake, OH, or Oakland, CA, or Buffalo, NY. Although nothing really compares to Detroit or Flint. Those places are farking shiatholes.

2012-02-03 08:06:03 PM
I live in a Hartford border town, and if I didn't have a wife and kids, would live downtown in a heartbeat. I grew up in the area, and like it here.

That being said, if I could, I would choose Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Miami, Houston, San Diego, Minneapolis, DC, Richmond, Savannah, Charleston, and Las Vegas over Hartford.

Hot and sticky sucks IMO, unless you are at the beach or doing water sports. Given that fact I work five days a week makes Miami pretty shiat.

2012-02-03 08:20:12 PM
Seriously though, I hate all the central valley cities in CA. Madera needs to be added to that list too. Where I did used to get stuck a lot growing up was McAllen TX, and Reynosa Mexico. Have a lot of family there and spent way to much time in those shiatholes growing up. Reynosa don't count though since it is in Mexico. Also spent a lot of time in Mexico in the cities of Monterrey and Morelia, but I actually liked those towns.

Completely unrelated since I'm on the East coast, but I like Manteca because that's where I pick up RT 120 for Yosemite, plus they have amazing strawberries.

TheDumbBlonde: Better to be miserable in Coral Gables then being miserable in Cleveland. IMHO.

Being in Cleveland causes misreable.

What's wrong with Sacramento? It is a nice little town with some very decent restaurants, and is a 2-hour drive from either the Bay Area or Tahoe. Great place to raise a family, with all its cute little theme parks and a zoo.

2012-02-03 08:42:52 PM
miss diminutive: I visited Miami last summer and enjoyed it. I didn't get a miserable vibe from it at all. Besides the total lack of recycling bins and the epic sunburn I acquired, I had a great time.

Recycling bins?? Is there a joke there I'm missing?

Dexter is almost entirely filmed in Long Beach, California. That should tell you something.

Every city in WV should be ahead of Miami.

Backwards Cornfield Races: Obviously they have never been to Stockton

If I had to choose between Detroit and Stockton. Put it this way, I know people that have bailed on the Bay Area for Detroit.

Miami is pretty bad, unless you are a well-off cuban or dominican. From what I saw while my bro lived there for awhile, it is not a place for a white boy from Ohio. There are no jobs unless you speak fluent Spanish.

Ha ha! Hartford is pretty miserable. But so is Baltimore.

Hartford is the hub of the universe

I thought I just saw something about how those that live in Miami are the "happiest workers in the US." I have been to Miami a couple of times and thought it was awesome. Much better than god damn DC.

2012-02-03 10:16:20 PM
This is completely different from last week's list.

More Florida on the other one.
Jacksonville, Miami, West Palm Beach, and Tampa(Or was it Daytona, I can't remember)
California had one in the top 10
So did Nevada
Detroit was on there too

2012-02-03 10:19:30 PM
I've lived in a dozen+ cities/states and by far the worst has been Danbury, CT.

Danbury = The. 9th. Circle. of. Hell.

The "highlight" of that place of a shiat hole is the mall off of 84.

The only other saving grace that crap hole has is its proximity to NYC.

/Got to bang a Columbia U. grad student hottie while I was living in the shiat hole Danbury so at least I made the best out of a crappy situation.

//Cheers!

If it wasn't already obvious at a glance that Forbes' lists are BS, read the metrics to see how they come up with them, and you'll know. Just ignore these idiots.
