Yeah, where are all those Republicans who roasted Janene Garafolo, Alec Baldwin and Tim Robbins? What? You mean THESE celebrities' opinions matter? THESE celebrities deserve to have their voices heard or even, *gasp*, hold office? THEY'RE not stupid elitist Hollywood airheads who need to shut the hell up?

For those of you keeping score at home, this is a RECORD turn around time for smarmy hypocrisy.

If elected, he'll be as good a Senator as he was a Monday Night Football commentator.

2003-10-20 11:48:58 PM
I'll vote for him. Anyone is better than Boxer...

Yeah, where are all those Republicans who roasted Janene Garafolo, Alec Baldwin and Tim Robbins?

The difference is, those people are all idiots...

Dark: I could never understand why every stand-up comic thinks Bill Hicks was such a genius. He always used to say that it didn't matter if he smoked because he could get killed by a bus at any time - and this reasoning makes sense to people? How simpleminded do you have to be not to understand additive risk? If you know A>0, then A+B>B. This isn't rocket science. Especially since - in perfect ironic punchline fashion, Hicks died at a very young age from smoking. So, not only was he wrong in theory, he was dead wrong in practice, too. But, of course, he was "a genius".

Then again, these are the same morons (stand-ups, I mean) who think that Andy Kaufman was also "a comic genius" because he acted like an asshole all the time. Oy. Some people have no standards, really.

I do not think he would win. Arnold won more of a distrust/snub of Davis than for Arnold. Boxer is not on Davis' level. She is much higher. I highly doubt CA would elect Miller over Boxer.

So, how long before the infinity sign goes up on this thread?

We can just adapt the Wesley Crusher campaign web page on the Wil Photoshop thread from earlier today.

It boggles the mind that the same republicans who are getting all excited about this, shun and ostracize certain liberal actors and actresses.

It's a snobbery game both sides of the political spectrum engage in much more than either cares to admit.

The brain dead, leftist commie ba$tards don't get his obscure humor. Go figure. *rolling eyes*
Perhaps he should talk slower, with monosylabic words, and maybe even some pictoral aids to help stimulate their listening comprehension skills???

Is this how bad it is for the you guys? You can't get a anyone elected here in California, your just going to celebrities as your useful idiots, while idiots like Pete Wilson really run things behind the scenes?

As they say, making laws is about as attractive as making sausage. Maybe running a successful conspiracy is good experience for running a government. If I had to choose between Machiavelli and my Aunt Nellie, perhaps the former would get something done where the latter stands like a deer in the headlights.

Of course, none of the people I vote for get elected, so maybe I'm just fatalistic.

I don't want to go on a rant, here, but America's foreign policy makes about as much sense as Beowulf having sex with Robert Fulton at the first battle of Antietam. I mean when a neo-conservative defenestrates it's like Raskolnikov filibuster deoxymonohydroxinate.

Heh. http://www.draftwesleycrusher.com

Granted, they're not after me, they're after him . . . but I bet I'd make a good advisor.

DHWalker, I think you're missing the point of Bill Hicks's comedy, if you're only aware of his smoking rants. Check out Rant in E Minor and Dangerous if you can. He was more of a social critic (in line with Lenny Bruce before he became a junkie) than just a comic.

2003-10-20 11:56:07 PM
He always used to say that it didn't matter if he smoked because he could get killed by a bus at any time - and this reasoning makes sense to people?

Hey, my dad never smoked, rarely drank at all, ran marathons, and still died of cancer at 52. Goes to show that healthy living guarantees you jack squat.

I love it whenever I hear people biatch about candidates that are not politicians, they're just regular people, they have "no experience."

What do you think the founding fathers intended? Lifelong politicians? Absolutely not ... they intended different people to take office every year: farmers, businessmen, teachers, military men, etc.

Our political landscape would be so much better if we did FOUR SIMPLE THINGS:

1. Abolish political parties. You don't register to vote in a particular party, you don't register to run in a particular party. If you want to say you are a liberal, a republican, a libertarian, a communist, whatever ... that's fine. But the way it is setup now, the power is in the two parties.

2. No multiple terms. No lifelong politicians. You get one term. You don't have to worry about your re-election campaign. Don't worry about losing 'good' politicians. There are plenty of good people out there that might show up to the 'party' if we clean things up.

3. No soft money, no lobbying. If you want to contact your representative, you use the normal methods: mail, email, phone, fax. Only real humans can contribute to a campaign fund. Why should a rich guy/company get personal access to a politician? How is this not bribery?

4. Implement a smarter voting method. We no longer rely on our 'representatives' to drive their horse and buggy to Washington to inform them of our vote. And if an area is rural and not highly populated, I'm sorry, they won't get as much personal attention from campaigners ... that is what you get when you decide to live in a rural area. The electoral college is insane. And having to choose just one person means the two party system cannot be broken. Let us introduce something like Approval Voting or Instant Runoff Voting.

2003-10-20 11:57:57 PM
The problem is that most voters vote on name recognition rather than actually spending anytime learning the issues or questioning the candidates qualifications. The scariest ones are those who just blindly vote a straight party ticket because that's what their daddy did (or some other lame-ass excuse).

You should judge a candidate in the same way you would for hiring a job position. Politics is a job after all. Make him/her present his qualifications and answer your questions. Don't accept hollow rhetoric as valid answers.

2003-10-20 11:58:08 PM
When the liberal celebs actually start running for office as opposed to trying to rule us by decree. Maybe then we'll consider them serious..... nah.

Did someone mention Ganine Gadawfulo? Isn't she the one who was on a comercial explaining how the Iraq war would cause the death of 1000000 (six zeros) Iraqis? The same one who said that flag waving didn't make her a proud American but a cross dresser in a g-sting in the gay parade did make her proud? Now SHE would should take serously.

2003-10-20 11:59:13 PM
I'm sorry, but being semi-famous does not advance you to the head of the line. If you want my vote for a high government post, you had darn well better have at least some experience in government/politics/public service.

Maybe Dennis should run for mayor or dog catcher or something first and put in some due dilligence before he asks for a senate seat.

Heck, even Jesse Ventura was a mayor before he became governor.

Wheaton's a hate-spewing Bircher freak? I did not know that. Learn something new on Fark every day. Wil must be so proud to have the anomaly vote.

I don't believe that politics have anything to do with your level of intellect or how well read/educated you are. I'll say this without any grumbling: Dennis Miller is a very smart guy. He is a walking dictionary. He probably knows more than I could possibly ever know and memorize in ten life times. A little bias, perhaps, even a little shaky in his logic, but i've yet to meet too many people in my relatively short life who aren't in some respects.

"You can't get a anyone elected here in California, your just going to celebrities . . ."

Wow. I am the biggest farking moron on Earth. Way to use "a anyone," and the wrong form of "your," Wil. Good thing I use the farking preview button.

I think I need to withdraw my candidacy. I'm too farking stupid to breathe.

On the good side, I can continue to frequent stip clubs, and get back to clawing my way up to the "C" list.

DHWalker- Everyone thinks Bill Hicks was a genius because he WAS.

Hicks was preaching the inherent evil ofteen pop, mall culture and all the things currently killing America years before anyone else caught up.

And his cancer was Liver cancer, non smoking or drinking related.

Now you can go back to listening to your Gallagher albums and wondering why no one is that funny anymore.

mattybatty

What the hell's a rant?

2003-10-21 12:01:47 AM
I think Dennis is pretty cool. He's moderately funny. Remember that humor for its own sake is awesome, but it sometimes has to be subordinated to a message. And I am all in favor of his message, generally. He pisses liberals off because he makes good points. Much like Rush... people are left with nothing but ad hominem attacks against them because years of attempts to dispute the message on a solid intellectual basis have failed miserably.

wil, you'd make a good john spencer to wesley crusher's martin sheen, and if you won, there would be all sorts of witty hallway banter

it's interesting that not a one of you has seemed to notice that he ISN'T running for senate.

it's the same story that's been in circulation for a month about how the GOP powers that be are talking about having him run. (which is just a bunch of gossip anyway.)

has anyone (including whoever posted it) even bothered to read the damn article? it spells it out in the first two paragraphs!

this is pretty sad. how many good links were passed over for another old-story-with-new-misleading-headline that fark is getting known for?

I'm disappointed. I think there's still some of Wil's ass that isn't covered in chapstick yet.

Dennis Miller is such a sell out.

2003-10-21 12:04:54 AM
I thought we were supposed to write a slogan for Dennis Miller's campaign using as much obscurity as we can. I must've misread it. Oh well, here's mine (again) :

"For prodigious expulsion of decorously formulated vernacular -- Optate Miller!"

2003-10-21 12:05:18 AM
Alec Baldwin... is here still here? I thought he moved to france.

We're tired of politician's bullshiat. That about sums it up :)

Dennis Miller was funny when he was liberal, he's funny now.
