I stumbled on the series this year and got hooked immediately thanks to NPH.

It helps that the female characters are people and not caricatures. I get a real kick out of Robin. I just saw the episode where she officially becomes a New Yorker (kills a roach with her bare hands, cries on the subway, etc.)

MagSeven: Have the future kids ever called Ted "dad"?

I just started watching this show via netflix a few weeks ago.
After the 1st episode that was my bet. He's not talking to his kids.

I watched the first season on netflix, then skimmed the wiki on the rest.
Seems like the same old re-harshed shiat that 90% of sitcoms do.
Went back to Farscape reruns.

You "skimmed the wiki" of a comedy?

Because CSI finally completed their shark jump by bringing in Ted Danson.

Teenwolf: Friends is just Seinfeld set in a coffee shop instead of a diner.

Seinfeld was just Cheers set in a diner instead of a bar.

Cheers was Sanford & Son in a bar instead of a dump.

Sanford & Sons was just Taxi in a dump instead of a taxi station.

And Taxi was just Star Trek on a spaceship instead of in a taxi station.

And Star Trek was just The Jetsons set in 3d instead of 2d.

And Jetsons was just Flintstones in the future.

And the Flintstones was just the Honeymooners in cartoon form.

And the Honeymooners were just Abbot and Costello with wives.

And Abbot & Costello were just Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as main characters instead of supporting characters.

And Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were just Jonathon and David from the Book of Samuel in comedic form.

So really, How I Met Your Mother is just a modern day Bible story.

Which is based on the Bro-Code.

I liked Danson on Bored to Death. I was probably only one of a dozen people watching Bored to Death, but he was good on it.

Robin's the mother. At the end of it all, Ted is going to end up with her.

I don't think so...I remember one episode when, while talking to the kids, he called her "Your Aunt Robin"

Well, she is a reporter, so it is possible she changed it for the news program because people were always saying/spelling it, like this actress. (new window)

/Really, though it is pretty normal for lots of little things to change between the pilot and the regular series.

The first three seasons of Sunny are some of the funniest television episodes ever made. The last few seasons have been balls-awful, with some episodes being utterly unwatchable.

Well I'm glad that I'm not the only one who despises Ted. He makes bad decision after bad decision and constantly whines about how things don't work out for him. I seem to remember an article from a month ago saying that Josh Radner doesn't want to do the show much longer and he's a real dbag on set (think Shelly Long on Cheers or Robert Beltran on Voyager). Who knows if it's true, but it seems believable.

Anyway, I was a huge fan of this show until the past couple seasons. While I still watch it, it has definitely gotten a lot more serious which I don't like. I realize they're in their 30's now and their lives are changing and stuff happens, but it's definitely made the show less "magical." Barney's a lot more entertaining when he's chasing tail rather than chasing love.

OTOH, I was glad to see a return of Chris Elliot. He should be more of a regular cast member (not in every episode mind you), but he has to remain terrible and not turn into a good dad like they've almost done :/. Of course, after what they did with Wayne Brady's character (making him a family man), I'm sure they would ruin Chris as well.

2012-02-03 03:59:37 PM

verbaltoxin: Mike Chewbacca: verbaltoxin: ExcedrinHeadache: It seems like it's getting into the trap that all comedy shows about a group of friends gets into around Season 6-7, in which everyone gets all baby-crazy and all the plots are hackneyed drivel about how crazy it is to be pregnant/have a pregnant significant other, how sad it is that the one cast member can't get pregnant, how the character who is the last one you'd imagine wanting a child has a startling revelation that he/she wants a baby, etc. How I Met Your Mother has handled it better than Scrubs did, for example, but it's still there. At least they didn't do an episode in which Lily is raging at Marshall to go fetch her various increasingly wacky cravings, and Marshall is afraid to refuse for fear of Lily's "pregancy rage."

It'll get there. They already did an episode where Lily does crazy sh*t because of "pregnancy brain."

/Ted is a douche

Ted is my least favorite character because he is SUCH A DOUCHE! But the other characters and high comedy value of the show make up for me disliking Ted. I'm finding myself rooting for Barney's longterm happiness than Ted's.

I suspect the creators have seen that, and that's why the last two seasons have focused more on Barney than Ted. They know everyone hates Ted Mosby. I'm still waiting for them to do an in-show gag that references it.

What are you talking about? Everybody loves Ted Moseby. Ted Moseby, Sex Architect is the best porno EVAR! And in it, multiple people love Ted Moseby as well.

I could see this. It would suck to be the "star" of a tv show where your character is the least likeable and your real-life career pales in comparison to that of your co-stars.
