77 cents of every dollar SGK collects goes into the pocket of someone at SGK. That says it all.

The fact that they haven't yanked Penn State's money says the rest. Penn State is under a REAL investigation, and they still get their cash...

Anal rape victims don't need abortions silly; besides that - FOOTBALL!
I still want to see the list of common players in the kids for cash Judge scandal and PSU/Sandusky charities. If SGK is on board it's gotta be some big players.
The veils are being lifted.

Well written piece.

Even if they canned Handel, assuming it's possible, the brand is irrevocably damaged. Well done, Komen. You illustrate exactly what's wrong with health care in this country - money and politics.

It's so sad that all of that pink stuff will now, and forever after, be seen as supporting right-wing fringe groups rather than the cause of reducing breast cancer. Way to ruin your brand.

Andrea Mitchell (who has or had breast cancer recently) had Nancy Brinker on her show yesterday. Told her about going to the gym that day and all the pink T Shirts were turned inside out to conceal any Komen-related branding.

Komen reverses decision to stop Planned Parenthood funding (new window)

"We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives," the group said.

"We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities," the group said.

Okay, now fire the people responsible and you might regain some credibility.

This whole business pisses me off. When my wife was a college student, and for a few years after until she got a decent, steady income, Planned Parenthood was where she went for (free) gynecological exams and breast cancer screening.

It's not just an abortion clinic, you fundie dickwads.

p.s. Conservatives don't like poor people.

But I thought they were getting such positive feedback! They're still sticking with the "Our vice president being an outspoken anti-planned parenthood, pro-life republican has nothing to do with our decision. Can we pretend this never happened?" angle. How many of their recent donations will be pulled?

2012-02-03 11:55:21 AM
Handel herself has been largely silent on the issue, until last night, when she all but confirmed what everyone suspected by retweeting- and quickly deleting- a tweet that read "Just like pro-abortion group to turn cancer orgs decision into a political bomb to throw. Cry me a freaking river."

So Handel didn't *actually* say it, but retweeted someone else's comment?

I don't know how someone who can project so many bald faced lies on national media in 48 hours could possibly regain any credibility.

"It wasn't political."

"It was all about 'grant quality'"

"We will never make decisions from political pressure."

As far as I can tell the breast cancer survivor families I know will never donate to SBK again.

Everything with one of those silly pink ribbons will now be boycotted. Also, I'll be making a donation to Planned Parenthood as a result... the first time I have actually done so. (Doctors Without Borders and Habitat for Humanity usually get most of my donation money, but it's time to expand.)

Breaking: Komen Reverses Decision on Planned Parenthood Funding, Is Still Likely Full of shiat (new window)

We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives.

The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.

Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair.

Our only goal for our granting process is to support women and families in the fight against breast cancer. Amending our criteria will ensure that politics has no place in our grant process. We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities.

It is our hope and we believe it is time for everyone involved to pause, slow down and reflect on how grants can most effectively and directly be administered without controversies that hurt the cause of women. We urge everyone who has participated in this conversation across the country over the last few days to help us move past this issue. We do not want our mission marred or affected by politics - anyone's politics.

Do it if you want, but remember to fill out the tiny pink card at the bottom of the package, probably in triplicate, or it never would've counted for "the cure" anyways.

Or buy a pink can of tomato soup, not fill out any form, and probably help more.

Their ONLY cut-and-run plan that could save them would have been:
We don't know how this happened, it was completely politically motivated, we were wrong, funds are restored, that biatch got fired, and for a limited time all funds will go directly to to the cause without any overhead.
