Aren't walk-in freezers (and coolers) supposed to have a handle on the inside of the door that someone who was inside when the door was closed can use to escape even if the outside handle was locked?

but if you put something big and heavy in front of it it's still locked

Funny, this is my local McDonalds. I can walk to it. I wonder why this is FARKworthy?
Here is a better Link w /video
(new window) They arrested one guy.
I knew something was up. On my drive into work there were about 10 cop cars in the parking lot. I wonder how many of them were just hanging out? They could not have all been doing a vital role. They just wanted to get in on the action.
It is in the mid 30s today.

With a handy picture of what a thermometer might look like in a freezer.

Yes, but Sol, Tyrone and Vinny probably didn't know that.

Most of the ones I've seen though have handles that would be fairly easy to secure with a bity of rope, chain, etc. So the burglar could pretty easily jam it. They should require that some kind of alarm be fitted on the walkin freeze. You could get an IR sensor cheap and hook it up so if the sensor sees a human shaped blob in the freeze for more than X minutes, the alarm company gets a call. They call the store, no one answers, police get called.
/or if you happen to work in fast food, perhaps politely ask the robber to dial 911 on the store phone on his way out the door or something
//if he leaves it off the hook the cops will show up soon enough
/point out to the robbers if you die in there their low rent theft charge becomes murder, so it works out better for everyone

Yeah the walkins I worked with you could easily fix it from the outside to stay shut. You could do it with a pen. But if you got stuck in some you could turn it off from the inside so you could get a little relief from the cold.

Yeah, um...that kid doesn't look like he'd do very well in prison. Not that I would know, or anything. Just an observation.

Well, obviously not the McDonalds on the Davison... that's one of the few McDonalds I've ever seen with bullet-proof glass over the counters. The kind of place with 24-hour off-site video monitoring.

this is how my uncle used to knock over restaurants. when the waitresses came in back to find out why there was no food he'd rob them and throw them in the cooler with no one in the restaurant the wiser. once, while leaving, the bread truck pulled up so he robbed them too.
he's been dead 15 years so it wasn't him.

Yeah... It's warm up here in Michigan during the winter now. We haven't had a proper winter in years.
Sure, we get a little snow, but it's nothing like the old days. No accumulation. It snows one day, and by noon the next day it's all melted.
I'm near Lake Michigan, and it's still 33 degrees here. Go further in-state, away from the lake effect, and it gets warmer.
