Certainly worth the tens of thousands of dollars in cash and belongings stolen, along with the humiliation of the elderly, children, the disabled, and any other random person who is fortunate enough to help TSA "protect us."

Pretty sure "disposed of" means the TSA officer took them home and gave them to his kids. My buddy's dad was a PO for awhile, hence my buddy always had the biggest and baddest knife collection. Quite a few screwdrivers in the garage too...

TSA doesn't specify that, the TSA regs will let you lock your loaded mags and boxes of ammo in the same lockbox as the gun, so long as the gun itself is unloaded. Individual airline regulations can be more restrictive tho.

Yup, that's correct.

Due to the nature of my job, my firearm usually travels around the country with me. The firearm goes in the top portion of a hard sided locked case. The magazines and ammunition go in the bottom portion of the case. Badge, handcuffs, cuff keys, PT2L and Bokker Cop Tool all go in the case too. The the case gets a cable lock through it's handle and around the metal support bean built into the case.

It's gone around the country several times with no problem.

I used to work at a press. The publicity director would routinely attend book conventions and return with 5-10k in cash.

I told her the post office would issue a cashier's check for something like 2.50 per 500 (which I'm sure some accountant could figure out a way to write off) but she preferred to save the 25-50 bucks.

It wasn't an everyday thing but these conventions averaged over 100 booths. No excuse for the TSA to freak out.

Hell, even when I travel, I always make sure I've got enough cash on hand to pay for:
A few nights in a hotel
Meals for a few days
Clothes (it really sucks to spend 3 days in the same underwear because the airline sent your luggage to Timbuktu or you dressed for Tahiti and you're stuck in Reykjavik)

And if I'm driving, I drop the clothes reserve but add a vehicle breakdown. Which saved my tuchus one time when I hit a deer and it pushed my grill into the radiator, puncturing it. And the only parts store in town with the right replacement and wrench monkeys was a cash only place.

Anyway, it costs me nothing for the peace of mind that I can handle these situations so why not? But then I don't fly commercial air anymore. Thank FSM for having a couple private pilots in the family...
