The sheer amount of stupid in this story is actually straining the boundaries of reality.

FTFA:
Ms Macdonald, 54, planned to cite her pet dog, Hamish, to the court. Hamish was pining for his absent friend and Ms Macdonald believed the sight of the cat snuggled up to the dog would convince the sheriff of the close bond between the two animals.

police were called to an altercation when Ms Macdonald found out where he was.

She said: "Hamish was heartbroken for Oscar and died on 9 January, exactly four months after Ms Dempster took him. He was fit and healthy until then." She believed Hamish would still be enjoying life if Ms Dempster had returned the cat.

She [Dempster] revealed she had previously rejected a proposed similar test to put the cat between herself and Ms Macdonald to see which one it would go to.

And, finally:
Nineteen year-old Ms Dempster has receipts of purchase and vet bills since she got the cat from a local petshop. Speaking after the court case, she said: "I am absolutely delighted this case is over. I always felt I was Smudge's rightful owner. I bought him and paid for injections."

I'm starting to get an inkling that one of these women is a batshiat insane old pet lady. Which is fine, if she had her own cat and not somebody else's.

Clever plan.....take a 19 year old to court to get her pussy.

Get your pets microchipped and put a collar on them if you want to maximize the odds of getting them back. It also doesn't hurt to not let them run free outdoors. My father almost lost his cat before a neighbor spotted some kid waiting with it at a bus stop.

Uhmmm, under Scottish Law a cat is property. The person with the receipt would have won this one and the person without would have born the costs! In fact, if the person who took the cat in did not report it to the Police (finding a stray cat and taking it in), she could be done with theft.

/Another interesting fact: under UK Law you need not report hitting and squishing a cat with your car, as it counts as a rodent.

Apparently as the court can no longer obtain witness statements from the dog, they are now interviewing the defendant's parrot to obtain supplementary evidence.

My cat overlord would not want to be deprived of his loyal servant.

Keep the cat inside.

The fairest way to settle this dispute would be to cut the cat in half.

The cat had wandered off from Ms Dempster's home at Cearn Ronaidh last March just six months after she bought it as a kitten from a local pet shop.

Who the heck buys and DSH? I hope the receipt was for typical adoption fees.

Contents Under Pressure: Keep the cat inside.

we just "evicted" a rather sizable feral colony this last week when it got warm. so getting a kick out of the article. i expected about 2 dozen feral cats at most, 62 were captured. i had been finding cat parts for about a year. coyotes had been getting a few. it started getting bad it October. feral cats would be outside and the girlfriend's cat would be hissing at the windows. the SOB's started climbing on the screens and yowling, that was the last straw. the DNR and a local animal control company came out and cleared out our lot and the few acres that belongs to the state and power company. they will return in 6 weeks to set up more traps just in case there are any more.

if you want your kitty safe keep it indoors.
