"It dishonors the memory of those past and present members, especially for those who have lost their lives in the line of duty," Dasaro said.

I love how they desperately try to make people not think it was funny. I'd have a lot of respect for them if they'd just come out and said, "OK, they got one over on us. But it still counts as an offense, or at least a work-related infraction. We'll try to figure out who's responsible, and at least make them reimburse us the cost of replacing the decals."

Instead, they try to impose a guilt trip on everyone. Real classy.

This is why you check out the artwork before it's printed. This is why the printer sends you proofs. Put down the donut and concentrate for a minute or two.

and 30 cruisers sported the design for the last year, officials said on Thursday....

ok, am i the only one that thinks that if it took these "detectives" a year to notice this , then there is no real reason to change it?

My late father was a cop for 30 years, and he would have thought this was hilarious.

Because it is.

Haha! If it wasn't for the fact I can't send beer to an inmate in prison, I'd send them a beer.

Oh, and apparently they're going to replace all the logos. Because cops having their feelings hurt is a bigger deal than, say, fixing potholes.

My thoughts exactly.

Fark 'em if they can't take a joke.

Lots more room for artwork on/inside a ship.

CSB: When we decommissioned my first ship the inactive ships people said that any murals painted inside the ship are preserved as long as the ship is in reserve. (they paint the outside and inside of the ships on a rotating schedule to keep rust down)

Subtle way to stick to an old tradition.

Do they put babes on the front of fighter jets and bombers still?

No pinup girls like the old days, but yes there is some art out there:

"While some may find humor in the decal modifications, the joke unfortunately comes at the expense of the taxpayers," Police Major Bill Sheets said in a statement.

Well, I dunno. If asked, I reckon your average taxpayer would probably be happy to save the money and just leave 'em as they are ;)

/problem solved?

yeah that was way over the top.

If their feelings are hurt so badly, and they're all concerned about the cost to taxpayers, how frakking hard would it be just to print up some random brown blobs on sticker material and stick them over the offending part of the image, rather than pay a ghastly amount to have all the graphics completely removed and redone?

Pretty much this. Somebody OK'd the design.

I couldn't see it at first, FWIW.

But I'll agree with subby. If you don't want this to happen, don't let cons decal your cars.

No. That would be obscene, inappropriate and potentially offensive to female personnel but dropping bombs on people from 20,000 feet is fine.

These people have no sense of humor? Its not even certain by looking at it that it was intended to be a pig.

Ya know. If you look at a cloud and see an ice cream cone, it might mean you are insecure about your love of ice cream cones. If you see a small penis, you might work for the vermont police force.

/when I was little, there were police cars that drove around here with "oink" stenciled in pink on the back bumper. Not sure if it was ALL the cop cars but it was more than one for sure.

Could have just kept the observation in-house instead of acknowledging it. No one would have noticed and there would be no taxpayer expense.

Pretty sure doing the job twice with prison labor is still way less expensive than if they'd done it once any other way.
