It's sad, but it's nice that he's finding a way to do something positive regarding it.

This is a very sad story, although not unexpected. When his wife passed away a few years ago (of the same thing), there were already signs...

I'd be thrilled if someone told me I'd live well into my eighties, taking four mile walks daily and coping well with mild cognitive issues and a 33 year pro-hockey career under my belt.

I actually agree with 2wolves on something - the Mayans were right.

Speaks more of the lack of athleticism in the NHL back then than the greatness of Howe.

Not necessarily. Some people are freaks(Julio Franco, for instance, who is probably years older than his reported age). It's not like there aren't hockey players that are old. Teemu Selanne is still going at 41 and he's leading the Ducks in points this season

Have you seen hockey from that era? There's a reason Gretzky was able to blow away everbody's records. Gretzky was a special player, but made 5x's more special by being one of the few special athletes at that time.

There's a big difference between 51 and 41. And there's a big difference between being a pinch hitter and playing hockey.

Yes, you're right. I mean look at all the other 51 year old players who were playing effectively in the NHL at the time, taking advantage of the watered-down talent pool of that era.
