They're toast.

AbbeySomeone: They're toast.

They caved under the threat of loss of support. And in doing so, will now learn what it's really like to lose support.

I really kind of wish I hadn't clicked that link. I spend all day trying to tell myself that people are basically decent, and jackasses like Gingrich and Santorum get elected for their economic policies, not simply on hatred and ignorance.

And all these people claim to be Christians. I truly can't wrap my head around that. The cognitive dissonance is astounding.

Put a fork in these people. They're done.

They take 77% of everything for admin, salaries and overhead, so they have to cut something.

And I have officially stopped supporting SGK.

2012-02-02 06:47:29 PM
Are they for the cure or not?

2012-02-02 06:48:21 PM
Once again proving the 'foundation for the cure' is not even a little actually for the cure in any real or meaningful way.

2012-02-02 06:48:32 PM
So SGK yanked the PP funding in a grand display because they're being investigated by an anti-abortion congressman, but has yet to comment on the $7.5 million grant that goes to Penn State...even though they're currently under a federal investigation for the Sandusky affair.

Susan G Komen foundation for the loss

planned parenthood and stem cells for the cure!

THIS! The planned parenthood thing I can deal with but this hits a little closer to home.

I was wondering about this. If you propose a new rule and only punish one party because of it, it's pretty hard to say "what? It's not political! It's just the rules." As far as I can tell, PP is the only party affected by this new rule.

Also, FTFA: embryonic stem cell research, which requires the destruction of unborn children in their earliest days for stem cells that have yet to help any patients.

If I wanted some asshole to manipulate half-truths at me, I'd tune into Fox, OK subby?

Well to be fair, it is called LifeNews, not AbortNews.

I'm just thinking that subs might have found a different source for this.

2012-02-02 07:35:55 PM
Well this is even more curious. In the report selectively quoted by the "news" site LifeNews, Komen states that they support "...research on the isolation, derivation, production, and testing of stem cells that are capable of producing all or almost all of the cell types of the developing body..." and this is used as proof that Komen has "stopped" funding embryonic stem cell research.

But in the very first sentence of that same statement, Komen says: "Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has never funded human embryonic stem cell research."

This may be Komen trying to reassure its more conservative donators or it may be absolutely nothing. What it definitely isn't is Komen pulling the plug on research in order to complete its transformation into a conservative anti-abortion powerhouse.

I love this one.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has an interesting way of helping women in the Big Apple. In response to the dustup over Komen's decision to yank funding from Planned Parenthood, he's giving the abortion business $250,000.

What if stem cells held the secret to the cure?

2012-02-02 08:46:26 PM
Trolltastic headline, Subby, claiming that Komen does not support "stem cell research" as opposed to "embryonic stem cell research."

2012-02-02 08:47:04 PM
The famous pink ribbon breast cancer charity that used to be for women's causes, now appears to have the primary focus of taking social conservative causes first, and women's health second.

Kiss your commonly held respect goodbye because you appears to be primarily supporting the 27% of social conservatives now.

/Going into a pink death spiral. Goodbye to annoying pink ribbons on every other corporate product.

I'm an Atheist, so I don't participate in the community of actual Christianity. My only contact with "Christianity" is with the loud, (ob)noxious, hypocrits Jesus so reviled. The real Christians I interact with are just nice people, who keep their relationship with God, in their heart and bedroom like they were told to. My only definate take away is that they were nice people, of indeterminant faith and ideology. The people trying to climb over each other to nail their neighbors to the cross make that very difficult to remember. But I try, I really try.

And they most likely do. Who's taking on bets on when they change their line to "Komen for the Jeebus"?

The new policy has to do with organizations that are under congressional investigation. I don't know what they call it, but I'm betting it's the No Planned Parenthood Rule.

How hard is it to understand that even embryonic stem cell research does not create a fetus or even something close to it in order to destroy it. Embryonic stem cell research has not had any success yet, however it very well may hold the cure for some forms of cancer. I can understand people who are pro "life" even though I completely disagree with them, but stem cells?

2012-02-02 08:52:39 PM
Best line so far "Disgrace for the Cure"

2012-02-02 08:54:30 PM
Embryonic stem cells are a side show. All of the real advances have come from adult stem cells. Once we learned to cultivate adult stem cells there's been no real reason to work with stem cells from embryonic lines.

Stem cells are stem cells, but if you harvest them from an individual and use them for a treatment you aren't forced to use anti-rejection drugs the way you are if you introduce stem cells from a foreign body.

So the only valid reason you're left with to use embryonic stem cells in research is if they're cheaper; which they really aren't.

/Not against abortion whatsoever.

Bloomberg can't decide if he's a democrat or a republican but his $250k to PP makes him ok in my book. Today...

So a cancer organization decides to stop supporting research into a potential cure for cancer all over politics and "morals." Yeah, that's genius.

So PP I can sort of understand, since there are other places to go get screened. I don't agree with it mind you since with the resources they have they are probably the most ubiquitous and effective but whatever.

But aren't stem cells seen as one of the possible "cures" for diseases like cancer? Am I missing something. How do they think they can get away with being so obviously transparent?

The thing is they've played the 'ZOMGTHEYZKILLINGTEHBABIEZ'
WAY too early. It'll be all out of gas time November rolls around.

And yes, this is ALL about politics.
