Sounds aboot right. What's the fuss, eh?

2012-02-02 12:30:34 PM
Its because they've finally gotten through the glut of people who tried to leave after the 2004 elections.

2012-02-02 12:32:15 PM
Well they have to re-pledge their allegiance to the Queen every year anyhow. They may as well get it out of the way now.

2012-02-02 12:33:22 PM
They coulda called me.

Ah, conservatives: Stupid, lying assholes in any country.

2012-02-02 01:03:04 PM
Well, I guess the good news is that only three of our real new immigrants were dumb enough to agree to appear on Sun News.

2012-02-02 01:04:02 PM
Sun TV Canada = Fox News

Honesty, integrity, scruples and ethics have nothing to do with what they put on air.

Meh, who cares, its a story about America's hat.

I'd put money on Ezra Levant being the dipshiat who thought this was a good idea.

The amazing part is....Sun Media is the one who comes up with the fake ceremony idea and the government goes along with it. When they get caught, the government publicly apologizes to Sun Media.

Uh no. According to the article, when they get caught, the political minister's office blames it on the "bureaucrat" public servants.

Really guys this is worse than all the blatant lying the Democrats' Fox News does in the US. Proving once and for all that the Canadian Conservatives are to the left of American Democrats, and, nope, nothing at all like the Republicans!

I so bet "Ezra Levant" is the blacked out name mentionned in TFA.

it's a stupid waste of time and money to stage shiat like this. Conservative party supporters should be ashamed that their party is farting around with taxpayers' time and dollars for stunts like this when they claim to be financially astute and are looking to whittle down the cost of government.

Nah, that name is probably an underling who was trying to impress him with this plan. If it was Levant himself, he wouldn't have had his name blacked out, he'd be shouting it from the rooftops and daring anyone who thought it was inappropriate to sue him.

You might be right, though he usually waits 'til someone exposes him before doubling down. Before that he's fine with insidiousness.

Yep.

How the heck do you manage to survive Alberta as a non-Conservative Canadian, anyway?

Either that or he'll try again to claim that liberal university students terrorized and coerced Sun into doing it.

Seeing that 99.9% of the stories here are about about Canada's underpants, you could at least cut us a little slack.

Very god-damn carefully. Was there for nearly a year, not as extremist as I thought in terms of actual ideals, but criticize the party in any way and you will suffer for it. The only positive spin I could put was that in most cases it was heavily fiscally conservative, which I disagree with but can respect from a different POV, as opposed to 'social conservatism', which on this continent means 'Back in *my* day, and only *my* day, we did and will do things thusly'.

lol, I fear for my life if this reformer government gets elected in for another term

I know Americans say they'll go to Canada if the repubs win..where will Canadians go? Sweden?
Alright, if the Reformers win again I am moving to Sweden!

I have extended family out there and they would know a "fiscally" from a finger in their butt and are every bit the kool-aid drinking, propaganda email forwarding, fearmongering, religious-fundamentalist, anti-science, anti-socialist conservative that most assume Albertan Cons to predominantly be.

Ah, well, perhaps my positive tourism experience is ablating the more negative memories of my time spent traveling the more rural and backwater parts of it.

But The Sun is everywhere, and It Is Law.

As a 5th generation Albertan, an avowed leftie, and a product of the rural Alberta bible belt, let me field this one:

I know lots of conservatives, both large and small 'C'. Largely, they are thoughtful and predominantly fiscal conservatives. When the new premier gets elected on bolstering health and education, it's hard to paint them with the brush that you guys are using. It's simply an unfair accusation, and I'm kinda pissed that you guys have made me defend them.

Going against the party? While there's no question that Alberta is famed for its PC hegemony, when the rabble classes decide to make a change, they do it en masse. Expect the PC party to get a square nut-kicking from Wild Rose in the upcoming election. Even they, who fall squarely right of the current PCs, wouldn't be a cataclysmic choice as a government in this province.

So, the TL:DR version: fark you guys. Alberta rocks.

If they actually cared about government overspending and fiscal prudence, they wouldn't have voted for this gang of thieves. I'm still steaming over the billion-dollar 2010 G20 mess and the million-dollar fake lake.

Fark Quebecor (and the rest of the telecom/media cartel).

I propose that the fake lake should be named Lake Clement.

I tip my hat to you good sir! As a fellow Albertan I:

-support gay marriage
-do believe in global climate change (though I am sceptical of the amount that humans contribute, we need to clean up regardless)
-am ok with fracking, as long as good science and regulation don't let operators get out of hand
-work for an environmental company that does lots of work for the oilsands
-am agnostic, let me be surprised when I die
-am pro-choice
-vote conservative based on fiscal philosophies (minimal government spending etc) don't forget all the money the NDP and libs were bragging about spending during the last campaign. It was freaking retarded.
-Happily live in downtown Calgary in a building that has a lot of immigrants (mostly asian).
-And most importantly I am a Roughrider fan. Yes a transplanted Saskatchewanian. We walk among you.

see? what's so crazy about the above?

Most underreported news story is the tens of thousands of Americans who try to emigrate to Canada each year but are denied.
