I kind of read it like she dictated it into a tape recorder while crying. It's a shiatty story though. I actually got into the WPS a little bit last year after the WWC, but I had no idea any of that was going on. The league will probably dissolve after all this anyways, sadly.

In a surprise move, some of us actually know how minor league sports are run and yeah, short of the sexism, it's pretty sh*tty for pretty much anyone and everyone playing 'em.

Or are you trying to suggest that WPS, which I would venture to guess that 95 percent of sports fans had never heard of, was a major league?

/I guess there are some minor leagues that aren't as bad (WNBA, probably NBADL, some minor league baseball affiliates), but that's because they're getting funding from a major league franchise.

I have a few friends that played professional baseball in the minors and some others that played pro basketball overseas. They all pretty much say exactly what you said.

The guys that played baseball in a MLB teams farm system all said that the conditions weren't great, but it wasn't horrible. The guys that played in independent leagues all said that the conditions were horrible and they had to deal with cheap, slimy, sketchy owners. The guys that I knew that played basketball overseas all said if you weren't playing in one of the top leagues you were treated like crap, contracts were never fully honored, you wouldn't get paid on time and some guys never received their full pay.

Team owners of non-major league sports teams are usually pretty cheap and slimy.

I went to a Breakers / Flash game after the WWC. Unsurprisingly, around the 40th minute, Marta fell down at the slightest touch and rolled around like she was dying. She got carded for her efforts.

It was also pink jersey day, so in retrospect, I wish I had picked a different day to go.
