With the exception of the Japanese company buying out OCP, the rest was just a rehash of the previous films, with the inclusion of a cute little girl who happens to be a computer genius (was this before or after Wesley Crusher?).

I actually think Robocop 2 was decent -- the drug angle was a good direction, but it was all a bit too silly.

What bugs me about Robocop iz: wouldn't it be cheaper 2 mass market robocops? So u'd have an armada of them. But they so badass that nobody wants 2 go criming anymo. So it's like a duel-edge sword. So what do U do wit all the extra Robocops? I guess U could have RoboDetailCop & he could watch ppl doing construction & RoboBouncer & RoboNightSecurity but that would piss off so many unions & all the human cops would go on strike. BUT maybe that could be the movie. Like all these bouncers, and striking cops, and mall security guards are like "These farking robots took our jobs & now we're f'd in tha A" but then some nerd will come up with an app. And wit tha app he can control all the robots and make them do bad deeds. So like all these robots are now controlled by the nerds & now thurrrs no cops or bouncers or mall security guards working tha streets. So not only are the robots causing a ruckus but now FLASH MOBS are robbin all the footlockers & ppl are getting ut of hand @ tha clubs. EXCEPT for 1 Robocop. He is more human than the others so he can resist tha nerds control.

So in tha next ACT extra human Robocop goes 2 tha occupy camp where all the cops, bouncers, & security guards are and he spits a speech @ them "Ppl, we gots 2 come together & get our jobs back cuz anarchy is tha new vibe & that's not right". But Occupy is like "Piss off Robot. U took our jobs" But Robocop is like "That was tha past. Let's save America!!" and occupy is like "WORD"

So then in tha final act it's this big epic battle lead by Robocop & tha cops & bouncers & they take back tha strip, & tha boardwalk, & tha malls & then every1 is like. Maybe we shouldn't give these robots so much power in tha future? BUT just as the movie is ending we see some evil nerd working on a program and then c:/run/SkyNet flashes on the monitor...and then that sets tha method 4 Robocop vs T ...

GT is much better if you are from the Rust Belt I think. A lot of the social dynamics they portray aren't that far off and the level of racism coming out of Walt is close to par for the course. Although in a lot of cases people are "polite". Meaning they didn't verbally say what Walt said, but their inner monologue is likely comparable to what Walt said on the screen. A bar full of white UAW line workers isa very racist place to say the least.

There are always a lot of tensions about the younger generation abandoning the whole working with your hands/manufacturing thing. Also that piece about him giving his kid who had the Toyota a death glare is dead on. We do have a generational gap split along those lines, younger gen works white collar and turns their back on the ideas of buy American and the value of manual labor. As someone who grew up the child of an auto worker, went on to work white collar, and married an Asian woman I found the piece almost a documentary at times.

The movie's main point about how stupid it is for the old white factory workers to be racist to minorities when they really have a lot in common is accurate and it is something we sometimes have problems with on the factory floor even today.

While there was white washing of racism and the concept of "it is just how guys give each other shiat", I saw the goal of movie more to be trying to point out there is a common ground as opposed to calling white guys for being racist or the minorities for being gang bangers. Walt overcomes his racism and you see the minority community overcome the gang problem in the end when they all testify about Walt's murder. It's supposed to get everyone to realize they don't have to hate each other, not point out sins.

Personally, I found that film pretty hard to watch... mainly because it was profoundly boring and hard to follow (probably because it was so boring). Look I get that everything is corrupt in Brazil, but you can't cram 5,000 characters in a movie and follow every little nuance of their lives. It just doesn't make for good cinema. I just don't give a crap about the rookie cop trying to get in that girls pants and all their hijinks in the classroom.

certainly that can't be the only appeal of Gran Torino? I like Clint Eastwood otherwise, but Gran Torino seems like a movie that would be rightfully mocked if not for Eastwood's involvement: bad acting by pretty much everyone involved, including Eastwood's "Not sure if serious.. oh wait, you are" character; some rather serious revisionism on race relations in America, etc. If this was an M Night Shyamalan film, it would be rightfully be called out on its awfulness.

It's gonna be tough to get this thing rated at pg-13, but I'm sure you Hollywood boys will figure something out.

Acting was terrible no doubt.

On the making excuses part though keep in mind the movie doesn't really call out the Asian community for engaging/supporting in gang activities (sometimes passively like when they refuse to talk to the police). It just says "No jobs, so of course the guys have to join gangs and end up in jail.".

Since everyone got a free pass on past sins, I don't really have an issue with the free pass on racism. The whole movie was pushing the idea of "just bury the farking hatchet already" which was a change up from the more common attempts to play on majority guilt or glorify any specific lifestyle. If they gave the white guys a pass but ripped up the Asians for being gangsters then I'd definitely be outraged.

To me it was more like Walt never has to lose face and apologize for racism (which you'll never get the rednecks to do, ever, unless you come up with a mind control chip). Rather he apologizes through his actions and the bettering of other peoples lives. That struck me as more "real politic" than pure whitewash.

I think the concept of Robocop as a meaningful social commentary is somewhat dated. As a society fascination with robotics is now also tempered with genetic engineering (see Gattaca), artificial intelligence (all those FBI programs like Carnivore), and guys who hit in trailers and kill people with remote drones (Predators, etc).

The idea of one kick ass Robocop to enforce the will of the corporation is dated, in that now we use disposable police units, corporate purchasing of laws, etc.

So Robocop is likely going to be mostly "look at this kickass CGI robot and all the merchandise it will sell".

My favorite part though was the reading of the will. Unlike movies like Crash and Avatar that wrap up the racism so neatly and deus ex machina style, Walt was still racist as hell, but had at least grown out of the hatred for his neighbors. This is more realistic and honest about how hard it is to kick racism.

I'm with Ha-ha-guy in being a rust belt citizen. Even though unions are anti-racist, membership can have some blue collar racism that could rival the south, especially among the suburban factories away from the city core.
