We can undo the damage, but it's going to require old people in ren faire garb.
Do we really want to risk that?

2012-02-02 02:09:58 PM
Let's sum it up:

"Should we do what is best for the economy by lowering monthly payments so people can still spend money in the consumer economy and not destroy their credit?"

"NO! ME ME ME ME ME! WHAT ABOUT ME?"

Idiots.

Yeah, but they are getting Mitt Romney for a candidate.

2012-02-02 02:14:55 PM
The flag on the play should have been "Taxed Enough Already" when it was clear we enjoyed the lowest tax rate in decades.

But NOOOOOO you people had to take these nutjobs seriously, like they represent any of you politically, socially or economically.

2012-02-02 02:15:21 PM
Yeah cause the Tea party emerged in 2006, and giving away free crap you can't pay for has worked soooooo well in the past.

Don't worry. When things truly go to shiat most of the people responsible can all sit back and blame the various boogeymen they created.

Giving these people waaaay too much credit what was really an astroturf movement by the usual suspects in Freedomworks.

Hate and Punish businesses. That'll make them hire.

Maybe if we stop giving certain ones corporate bailouts and allowing monopolies competition could rise and allow us better services.

I'd be willing to listen to their screeching if these same mongoloids weren't the demographic that allowed W to damn near drive this country off a farking cliff with his drunken orgy of spending and tax breaks. For all of their complaining, I hear nary a peep from these same people about the enormous financial costs we have shouldered as a result of Iraq II: Electric Boogaloo.

You want to rein in spending and get our finances in order? Fine. Then START with the obscene military expenditures, and work your way toward understanding that taxing the rich at higher rates is how every functional first world democracy keeps itself from facing the problems we have.

Otherwise, shut the fark up.

Demand makes business hire, nothing else. Nothing.

They would see this is hating and punishing.

Taxes aren't punishment.

And they wouldn't care if we hated them or loved them as long as they get our money. They'll sit there and listen to us curse out their mothers and grandmothers, as long as they get paid afterward.

Businesses don't have feelings and do not care what anyone thinks of them.

FDR didn't have to deal with a mediaopoly

The Tea Party was nothing but a media driven narrative, not a movement of any kind.

crab66: Don't worry. When things truly go to shiat most of the people responsible can all sit back and blame the various boogeymen they created.

This is precisely why I've said that the only thing that can possibly change the national landscape is a serious crisis; financial or otherwise.

As long as the sheeple are comfortable with their security blankets of "OMG Soros..librul media...soshulizm!!", they'll never be forced to confront how incredibly dysfunctional (and incongruent with most modern notions of democracy) their ideas are.

Too fat and happy.

Republicans in general don't understand economics.

Call me when a professor tries to teach "supply side economics." History professors don't count.

Preventing monopolies is like... the definition of punishing businesses to most people who use stupid phrases like "punishing businesses".

Thank GOD we didn't get a New Deal.

Or, are all of you too ignorant of history to know that FDR's second bill of Rights was the spitting image of the Constitution of the USSR.

Yeap, The Empire that required totalitarian control of the people so it could implement that WINNING political philosophy.

AND... the Empire that went bankrupt and collapsed trying to implement it.

The author of this article is a dumbass.

The Tea Party didn't go far enough.

I once kidnapped the daughter of a small-business owner. The ransom note I sent told him to hire me. I did not get the job, despite my obvious qualifications.

So you explain to me how demands make businesses hire. Go on, tell me.

Lost me in the subtitle:

After a brutal recession was brought on by Wall Street greed

Well, if you're going to scapegoat and lie/exaggerate before you get to the body of your piece, you lose all credibility, scumbag.

The headline is probably correct, in that the teabaggers influence reduced Obama's ability to stimulate the economy and made us worse off, but I'm sure the article is full of garbage.

yeah because during the time the new deal was enacted until the time Reagan kicked off the republican war on middle class people we did not become the strongest nation in the history of the entire human race or anything.

Depends on your definition of fair. It replaces taxes with one big old sales tax. If you think people should be taxed on the resources they consume/purchase, it seems fair. If you think people should be taxed on their ability to pay (and the likely benefits received by living in a stable society), it does not sound fair at all.

In this case the small business owner did the only sensible thing - math. The insurance policy on his daughter paid out far more handsomely than any future dependent tax breaks he would get. Plus no car to buy her, no college tuition, etc.

Which as EVERYTHING TO DO with FDRs socialist policies and NOTHING TO DO with the US being the only Economic SUPER POWER after WW2 because all the others had the crap bombed out of them.

Nothing.

Yeah.

eh, maybe, maybe not. Depends on what's judged to be the likely cost of not bailing them out.

... and allowing monopolies competition could rise and allow us better services.

Now there's an idea. You realize that "we" means "government", right? Don't think vigilantes would work, here.

I know -- let's create some sort of Federal Commission. It could deal with Trade. And maybe a Division in the Department of Justice that has some sort of Antitrust function while we're at it.

What about if your definition of unfair is "shifting the tax burden to the poor and middle class?"

Ok, so 10 people started the Tea Party, which took 2 years to manifest as some sort of movement, and this is considered populism.

But 2000 encampments around the world, who in a matter of months has reached the President and started the wheels of legislation, is ignored as a a few ineffectual anarchists.
