They're pretty good. Very tight. The bass player is especially smooth for such a young player. Props.

Oh, and the "drum kit" is that wooden box the one kid is sitting on. It's called a cajon, I think. It's got the workings of a snare built inside and the individual sides of the box act as tom or bass drums. Very cool instrument.

Is there such a device as an electric cajon? At 22 seconds, you can see a cable going into or out of the box; at first glimpse, I thought it was the bass just plugged into an amp, but that would be a pretty odd looking amp then.

By the way, Bob Becker, the guy in the video I just posted, is improvising over half that performance. I got a chance to play with him in college and he is just sick.

Might just be a mic cord. Anyway, definitely not an amp, definitely a cajon (that's cah•HŌN), definitely a cool instrument. Spanish-gypsy word for "box," popular in latino musics, especially flamenco.

I neglected to mention that despite the marimba sound it was ar eally f-ing awesome arrangment and I wish I could have thrown something together half as cool with my other percussion dorks in college. We managed to perform the original Zelda dungeon song w 2 marimbas....but that was before the youtubes....

So back in High School, the drummers used to arrange cello concertos and other string pieces for Marimba and they were absolutely hauntingly beautiful. Anyone got any links to stuff like that?
