Good for Washington.

Within a generation the Fundies and Republicans will be marginalized on this issue.

Well that's it.

I'm done with being straight. I've made my decision! The gay agenda works. I want to be gay now. Where can I find a recruiter to start me in the process?

More than 7 out of 10 incoming college freshmen believe that same-sex marriage should be legal. It is only a matter of time. Older people who think this is an abomination unto the Lord are going to die, and we're going to become the majority.

This will go to a statewide referendum, as the eastern part of the state (deep red) will have an aneurysm over it. However, the referendum against it will fail, as the vast majority of citizens reside on the west (blue) side of Washington. The easterners will then whine about non-representation and the rest of us will roll our eyes (not our fault you live in areas with towns no bigger than a few hundred to thousand people, Spokane being the exception) and they will suggest seceding and joining Idaho. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Hopefully my state of Oregon does this. "We" (meaning people other than myself, who voted against it) approved a 2004 amendment to our state's constitution that banned it. It wasn't an overwhelmingly victory, as I recall, and 8 years later is certainly enough time that I think the balance has shifted significantly.

I vaguely recall a story that it won't be included on a ballot until at least 2014, however.

yeah but dont forget, college kids skew more lib than non college kids, and not all kids go to college.

i agree that the trend is heading in the correct way and its a generation thing, much like interracial marriage was a generation ago, or inter faith was before that, but i dont know if its quite a rosy a picture as that 7 of 10 stat would indicate.

there are an awful lot of dumb as dirt socialy isolated homeschooled or whatever dumbass americans out there.

2012-02-02 10:02:22 AM
As this liberty is expanded, and predicted detrimental effect fails to manifest, more of the populace will realise that the continued opposition to this liberty, based upon these failed predictions, is based either upon willful ignorance or outright dishonesty and thus will become more supportive -- or at least less opposed -- to further expansion of this liberty. Further, those in opposition to this liberty will become more marginalized as their opposition is demonstrated to more individuals to be entirely irrational, because continued opposition based upon demonstrably false predictions is not reasonable.

Actually, the study I was pulling from showed that more than 4 out of 10 income college freshmen who self-identify as conservative believe the same thing. It won't be long before the majority of every demographic group within the current 18-29 generation agrees.

same on all western states. California central valley is the same.

the difference is, CA has the bluest of blue state gun laws, and OR and WA dont. Which is interesting to me. And makes me want to move to WA.

Organic food, awesome microbrew, cute little hipster tatooed skirts to chase AND i can get an AK47 with a larger than 10 mag cap? AND NO STATE TAX?

Moar please.

Any state that produced Red Hook cant be half bad

This is good. I look forward to attending a gay marriage. I predict it will be fabulous.

What I do not look forward to is the hate-filled, divisive battle that will now be waged when the overalls crowd forces this to a public vote.

Also, Washington state has a massive budget deficit to deal with. Huge cuts in education, social services and more loom. Democrats, who have the House, Senate and governor, have been ignoring it while working on things like gay marriage and a ban on plastic shopping bags.

So, yah for equal rights. Boo for what's to follow.

Nothing disgusted me more than seeing two men or two women together, holding hands, sharing loving looks. You just knew they would be going back to their homes and commit sweaty, sinful acts of lust and physical pleasure. Even worse, they obviously just enjoyed each others company.

Now they can get married and never again know joy like the rest us! HAHAHAHA! Hell, come join the ranks of the broken and tired my gay brothers and sisters. We're the ones slumped on the park bench watching our kids and dreaming of the sweet, sweet release of death!

\Maybe I'm kidding, maybe I'm not

I can't figure out why there wasn't more of a rush to do this.

If you're among the first states to do this you'll get a flood of people (who tend to have a pretty good amount of disposable income) coming to your state to get married and spending all that money on ever more elaborate weddings (they tend to be a festive people).

That's a lot of money up for grabs. It'll probably die down after a while but still, we're in a recession and most states are bankrupt. Anything would help.

They should be putting out ads in other states and giving out glittery awards for the most needlessly lavish weddings.

Sure, there are some slightly right leaning counties in WA east of the cascades, but nothing's "deep red". The representatives WE elected just voted for this and good for them.

That's why we do funny things like legislate the apportionment of road taxes. By law, they must be paid out to counties at the same rate they're received. Unless King County wants to think about doing something with the Alaska Way Viaduct, then Spokane County has to sue the state to release monies they were trying to illegally move to King.

But you see, that actually happened rather than an unsubstantiated claim that monies flow to eastern WA.

/Yakima is dead center, not east or west
