Because despite the internet's hopes and dreams RON PAUL isn't in any way a threat to Romney and will never, ever be the nominee.

2012-02-02 10:37:41 AM
I have to say. I would vote for Paul over Obama. I HATE to say.... But if Paul ran as the Vice to Romney.... I would vote for them since Paul would be on the ticket. Its messed up but that could be a viable strategy to get a lot of young vote, and lot of vote entirely.

2012-02-02 10:38:55 AM
Because he is, justifiably, afraid that Paul will rip his throat out with his false teeth?

2012-02-02 10:38:57 AM
for Romney, a chance to gain support from one of the most vibrant subgroups within the Republican Party.

I really can't see this working. Paulites are not going to run towards Romney when Paul drops out.

2012-02-02 10:51:55 AM
If Mitt taps Paul for VP , they could be "Rich & Crazy"...

Is it because of the hair? I bet it's because of the hair.

Bingo. For as much as they've drunk deep of the Paul derp, they still see Romney for what he essentially is, a sockpuppet of a man propped up by the GOP establishment and someone who contains no real thoughts of his own. Paul's endorsement of Romney when he drops out isn't going to change that.

That is the thing though... Paul won't drop out.... even if he stays in and gets 7-20% of the vote in each primary... Romney still easily gets the delegates he needs... Paul supporters feel like they "supported' Paul to the end... and Paul gets some sort of deal in the Romney fall run (VP slot, promise of some cabinet spot, etc) that ties his support to the ticket.

I'll vote for whoever legalizes it. Oh and cuts taxes, social security and medicare because those all come out of my paycheck

In a country full of RON PAUL crazies, I can't imagine Romney is going to place himself as the only obstacle between Paul and the presidency.

Ron Paul saves all his venom and vitriol for his newsletters.

2012-02-02 12:50:16 PM
I hadn't thought about it, but Paul's a pretty viable option for VP on the ticket. Gingrich is out, given the shiat he's been spewing at Romney, Santorum could bring in the fundamentalists but will completely turn off the independents, Huntsman would mean too much Mormonosity on the ticket, Bachmann's pretty batshiat insane, Caine's toxic.

Paul can hold his own against Biden and brings another big name onto the ticket. If Romney already considers him a friend, that could seal it.

All Biden has to do to win the debate is ask Ron Paul to explain his policy beliefs.

One silver Dime!

Waste...of...time and money.

So much for fiscal conservatism when you spend billions to go through the motions of an election.

2012-02-02 12:52:40 PM
If a friendship can keep Paul from running as a third-party candidate, Romney should be holding open the graham crackers while Paul toasts his marshmallow.

I can't see Romney picking any of the douche bags that ran in the GOP primary as his running mate. I'm thinking Chris Christie.

Paul's refusal to go after the frontrunner takes some wind out of the sails of his candidacy, doesn't it?

the lack of fire towards Romney makes sense if Ron Paul wants Rand Paul to be Romney's VP.

So the only real anti-establishment guy is in bed with the establishment? don't we call that "selling out"?

2012-02-02 12:56:54 PM
Paul can't run as VP, because you can't have a VP and a Pres nominee with wildly different policy positions. The VP must be willing to advocate the policy positions of the President, and never, ever contradict them. Paul can't do that and retain his support

2012-02-02 12:57:22 PM
Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate I would vote for. I wouldn't even vote for Mitt if he made Paul VP

I never understood why limit yourself to the other running for president. One name that I can imagine high on Romneys list is Daniels, another might be Rubio. The idea of Paul being VP is interesting in its implications but I just dont see it. The rest of the pack are kriptonite. The VP will be a governor and probably from a swing state.

Yes. The establishment choice is going to put an insane old man whom 80-90% of Republican voters despise on the ticket. That is the most likely play here.

Some people believe gridlock is good. Never mind that they're hypocrites when it's pointed out that gridlock would waste uncountable billions of dollars.

Maybe I'm biased but Paul's answers to a lot of things scare the crap out of me.

I'd avoid any political ideology where people are "concerned" about "getting back to the Constitution."

The only position he's qualified for is Commandant of Newt's imaginary Moon Base.

Friendship aside, I do think it's a bit laughable that a Ron Paul endorsement of Romney, or even a VP slot, would at all help Romney. Sure, some would probably switch over to Romney, and the ensuing mental gymnastics of how Romney's positions are similar to Paul's would be amusing, but it would likely result in an even break between Paul's supporters voting Republican anyway, voting for someone else, or voting Obama; all of which are pretty likely even without an endorsement or VP position.

I cannot ever really remember Paul going negative in his presidential campaigns. He may call out people on policy issues but he never seemed to muckrake. And I cannot see why Romney would go after Paul... Paul is not going to win the nom. Never. Why attack a non contender?

Nah, Paul as the VP is him selling out to the man. Also he's too vocal and a risk. The VP is supposed to be someone who rallies the broader base and is stable. There are portions of the Rep base that Paul can't rally and he would be a target in the VP debates over his newsletters and the like.

I think if Paul does well he gets the Hillary treatment, a cabinet post. I'd actually like to see Paul as the Sec of the Treasury or something just to watch the massive "Oh shiat" from Wall Street, followed by a mass exodus of private jets in the direction of the Caymans.
